Exclamation

I have been antipation the end of the Sept to have a new SuperCrew. but I read something to this effect as well and am now corcerned as a plan to pull a 31 foot trailer. Hence transmission reliability is right up there for me. Any details would be greatly appreciated especially build dates or something that I can determine what transmission is in the truck i receive.

Post Transmission Reliability

o.k. guys ...whats the story...?? i have read an article that said that ford was shipping transmissions to the kc plant..(super crew city) because the mods made on the 2001 transmissions were causing reliability problems .. the ohio plant and another were gearing up to send transmissions with the 2000 design instead of the newer 2001 design to the super crew plant... has anyone experianced or heard of the reliabilitry concerns which propted this action..????

just got this from the transmission page:
"The reports are wrong, the box that goes to lorain is not interchangeable with the box used at KC. Most KC trucks get 4R70s, the 4R100 only goes into F-150s with low emission packages, and Lightnings. There are 30 models of 4R100, and each one is not interchangeable.
The problem with the '01 design was a faulty mechanical diode, which has been fixed. Reverting to the '00 model part was not a serious option because the tooling was scrapped and that wuold have meant a several week delay. The mechanical diode was redesigned and the new parts where in in less than 24 hours, we are running parts ogf the new design allready and they work fine. Lorain and Mighigan Truck lost a day or too of production, that's all. The problem only affected Modular engines, deisels where not a problem.

Hope this helps.

I do not know if the "diode" could have been my problem but at 1200 miles what they called the hydrolic valve body in my supercrew transmission went bad. The symptom I had was after backing up in the driveway when I put it in drive the motor shut down and went dead. They first said something about the torque converter locking up but they replaced the hydrolic valve body.

Basically you'd have to rev the engine to around 4600, let off the gas and immediately floor the gas pedal again to see a possible failure. Bare minimum would be a loss of 2nd gear.

Luckily we don't have these trannys in our trucks.
