Question Which bed cover?

Some questions about the RETRAX and its use on my Ford F150 Supercrew -
1. How much of the bed opening is lost when the cover is fully retracted - in the photos it looks like the cover does not go all the way back into the container so you'd lose the container depth and the open cover depth - at least at the bedrail level.
2. How many mounting holes need to be drilled and where are they located? I'm not too thrilled with adding holes to my truck.
3. Does the Ford bedliner (Duraliner) cause any problems with the installation? Does the liner need to be modified to install the RETRAX?
I'm looking at RollnLock, AccessCover, and RETRAX and having a hard time deciding which one I like best. I know the AccessCover is a soft cover but it's half the price of the others and it is less intrusive (damaging) to the truck.

Anybody have any opinions?

Thanks. Great message board by the way.

Thumbs up

Access Roll-Up cover works for me. Cheaper than the hard roll top, almost as easy to open, easy to install or remove, looks great.

How does the Access work? Does it remain rigid when rolling up, like the Retrax, or do you just roll it up by hand like all the other soft tops? How much does it cost? Is it easily available?
Thanks.

Kenster-

The Access cover is held tight by the locking bar that locks into place just above the tailgate (you can even adjust the tension too). When you release the locking bar, the tension on the cover is removed and at that point the cover can easily be rolled up by hand (nope...no motors or springs).

While rolling, the cover is not rigid, but it is really easy to roll because the support bars are *built-in* or *attached* to the cover and they provide extra support while rolling. Most of the time I can roll it up just fine standing on one side, however sometimes I have to cross-over to the other side to straighten the cover while rolling.

In general it is VERY easy to roll up whenever you need to use your bed. That's what I like about it.

I also REALLY like the ability to adjust the tension so that the cover stays nice and tight and doesn't sag. It makes it look almost like a hard-top cover.

The covers are going for $422.99 for the all silver frame and $458.99 for the all black frame (+free shipping) at www.realtruck.com (no I don't work for them!). I ended up buying mine with the silver frame locally for $435 (included installation). They're pretty easy to install yourself...basically 8 clamps and a few nuts.

Hope this helps! I'm sure you can contact RealTruck for the name of a local place that carries the cover. The place that I bought my cover from even had a small floor demo unit that I could "try-before-I-buy"...plus the manager had a cover on his truck that he let me look at and try before buying.

Has the soft access cover leaked in a heavy rain while on the road? We get some pretty hard rain down here in hot hot Fla.

Leeman-

Couldn't tell you...it hasn't rained much since I bought my cover. I've washed the truck with the cover on and only a little water got inside, but not much. I just need to readjust the weatherstipping near the tailgate and that should keep that water out.

In general it seals pretty good and has water/dust guards at the front and back of the bed.

All,

You may want to checkout our top made of aircraft quality Lexan. The unit uses no springs since the sides contain ball bearings to allow easy movement of the slide top. Units aqre semi-gloss black and pics can be seen at the following:

As in the past I offer a discount to other F-150 online members. If interested please forward your query to the following address. Brochure is also available upon request.
I alos currently have a 3 month old Supercrew model at a discount. Have had the other tops and discountued stocking those once I installed a RETRAX.
