I need some feedback on Grill Guards & Nerf Bars. I will soon have my Supercrew to start customizing. It is a 4x2 Lariat Oxford White with Silver two-tone. I am leaning towards chrome or stainless for my grill guards & nerf bars. But black may not be bad either. What do you guys think and why? What is a good brand to go with?

I looked at a bunch of guards, however, I decided in the end not to go with any. Changed my mind on the overall setup. Anyway, out of all I saw "Manik" was certainly the nicest. Good finish and the bend on the main uprights to match the line of the grill really looked sharp. I like the black but thats just me. Had a chrome bar on my GMC sierra and rust was a pain, but then again that was probably just because it was on a GMC *grin*...Good Luck...

Did the instalation of the Westin nerf bars require any drilling in order to mount them to the truck?

Here it goes, I work on the side for a custom shop.... The owner recommends the Manik stainless steel push bar and the Westin chrome nerf bars. I "had" the Grizzly push bar (until a car carrier ripped it off my truck today!!). It was a piece of sh!+. Not very strong, and rusts easily. The owner of the custom shop also recommends staying away from Grizzly products. Cheaply built,and cheap chrome (i.e.-rust easily). I am replacing my Grizzly in about a week when I get the front of my truck back together with a Manik Stainless Steel push bar, and to boot, I'm going with the chrome Westin nerf bars. Again, the owner has seen lots of chrome bars come in rusted, but he has yet to see a set of chrome Westins come back rusted. I gained all his info and opinions by asking him questions about my truck and what he recommended as a good product. And it's not that he's gonna make more money selling a certain product over another since he's selling me them at jobber price.

Installing the black Westin Nerf bars on my SC took less time than changing the oil the first time, that's for sure! It's a bitch gettin' to the oil filter in a 4X4 SuperCrew! No drilling and a piece of cake once you figure out which mount goes where. They look great on my Amazon green. I ripped off the pinstripe, 4X4, and Lariat cheapo decals, and the truck looks killer. Now I have to find a talented artist to paint the Hulk on my tailgate!

I am looking at the black Westins. I have a white 4x4 and think the black will be more subtle than the Chrome.
1) Do you have a pix?
2) Do they mount to the frame or under the chassie?
3)Where/how much did you get yours?

I like the look of chrome on a white truck . I have a Go Rhino grill guard, center section only. In my opinion, black on white looks like a work truck. Sdee photo:

I have a White 4 X 4 and put the black Westins on it and I am very happy with the look. From a distance they kind of blend into the undercarriage as apposed to standing out like chrome would. They attach to the rocker panel, not the frame.

Okay- I must admit to answering the previous call on thes pages a few weeks ago for a volunteer to give up their truck for a few days to be "outfitted" by a brushguard,side step rail company. :-)

Anyways- my truck is in the hands of some really great people and they shall be returning it in a few days after they are done sizing,outfitting,photos etc. I shall return with photos on my photopoint website when it comes back. I dont want to show off photos of it before the company does though- but if you stop by my house- maybe i will show the truck to ya- Hee hee.

I'm driving your truck's twin. Haven't opted for grill guards...yet, but did go with chrome SS Westin nerf bars. I really like the look of the silver/chrome combination and the chrome nerfs between the chrome wheels looks great.
