Trailer Tow Group, Class III
The "Trailer Tow Group, Class III" comes with Heavy Duty Shock Absorbers and I would like to know what that does to the driving comfort. I do not plan on towing but after reading several posts I think that the extra cooling and other extra's that this might be a good option. However I don't want this to give this truck a "stiffer" ride, please advice asap, I need to let the dealer know if I go along with the 4.6 engine instead of the 5.4 since the 5.4 is causing a delay for me. So any other advice on the "Heavy Duty Electrical/Cooling Package" is very much appreciated as well. THANX.

Hey Dutchy, Don't worry about having a stiffer ride with the tow package. I traded in a 1997 F150 SuperCab that didn't have the tow package, on my Supercrew that does. The ride on this SuperCrew is so much better than the 97. The 97 had horrible highway hop on the freeways out here in California. The SuperCrew doesn't, it's smooth even over the Yolo causeway. Also it may be my imagination but this SuperCrew seems to park easier than my 97'. Considering everything you get with the tow package it's well worth it.

John in Cal,
Could you give a little more details on what comes with that tow package. Electrical and cooler does not explain anything to me. Like I stated, I'm not planning on towing anything, but you never know. It looks like I'm going to have to go with the 4.6 and read somewhere that the tow package will assist the 4.6 when towing, is this true.

Dutchy,
I have been gone the last couple of weeks, so I don't know what is going on with the 5.4 engine. I had a 97 SuperCab with the 4.6 and it would down shift going up hills. I then bought a 99 SuperCab and got the 5.4 and it drove so much better. I only got 1 to 1 1/2 MPG's less with the 5.4. I now have a SuperCrew with the 5.4 and it's great. I would recommend the 5.4 and the tow package weather you tow or not. It drives better and is better for resale. The 5.4 is worth the wait.

Skyjet,
Thanx, I did write to my dealer and explained that we prefer to have the 5.4 and would only accept the 4.6 after we know how long the delay would be. About the tow package, could you explain a little more about it. The details on what the benefits are, bla, bla, bla. I have been trying to find out but just cannot get any details on what the "Heavy Duty Electrical/Cooling Package" does for the truck.

Dutchy,
The list price of $340 is cheap for what you get with the tow package. The following came out of a 99 brochure I have.
Tow Package:
7 pin with a 4 pin converter. (trailer lights and brakes.)
Class III hitch
HD Electrical/Cooling Package.
Brake controller wire harness.
HD Electrical/Cooling Package:
130 Amp. Alternator.
78 Amp-hr battery.
Super engine cooling.
Auxillary Transmission oil cooler.
Engine oil cooler (5.4 engine only).
I don't know if this has changed for the the 2001 SuperCrew or not, but it should give you a good idea.
You can check for more info at: www.fordvehicles.com or www.fordvehicles.com/vehiclehome.asp?vid=20
The tow package should make your engine and transmission last longer if it is kept cooler.

That $340 will help you sleep well. It keeps your options open. And, don't you deserve the best?
