Question RUNNING BOARDS / NURF BARS

Well am I the first Canadian to purchase a supercrew 4x4 or what. I have yet seen another canuck advertising on this site...these trucks are the best!!

My problem is in trying to decide on weather to have running boards put on the supercrew or a good looking set of flaps and nurf bars. I like the looks of the nurf bars, but the protection of a running board is superior.

Has anyone installed boards or nurf bars and flaps on their supercrew 4x4 yet??? I have seen the Ford boards in their brochures, but not that crazy about them.

This is driving me up the wall trying to decide which way I should go......please help ....send pictures.....anything!

Cool

2001,
You maybe the first Canuck to receive a SCrew. But "waltesa" from Ontario has been active message sender on these boards for months, and has been waiting since Jan. for his. See the "Order Date" thread.
I agree with you. The black factory running boards do not look good on the color combo you (& I) ordered. I happen to like the Ford step bars that are illustrated in the Ford Accessories catalogue ("Styled molded running boards Part # 16450). The last time I was at the dealer, they did not yet show a part number for the SuperCrew. They come painted to match the truck (silver would be my choice) and have black ribbed step pads. They (like all Ford Parts) will not be cheap-$500 would be my guess.
My next choice would be SS nerf bars. (No rust please & also a real concern for a "Calgarian".) I think Westin, Manik and SmittyBuilt have them. They all have WEB sites. And I'm sure there are others.
Let us know what you get and post a picture when you get them.
BTW, Post a picture of your truck-I'm still waiting!!!

Thanks for the support SuperCrew!
The end is near - Thursday's update shows that it's bucked. Of course it also means I'll have a Thursday/Monday vehicle (Friday being a holiday). Hopefully it'll be here for the Canadian long weekend in May.

I've found a running board manufacturer that makes a model for the SuperCrew. Their Premier Step Plus model, available in factory-matching colors looks pretty good.
I'm on the verge of ordering one...

Visit their website at: www.aerotecinc.com

I just called Smittybilt out of Corona California. They are working on a "Sure Step" nerf bar that "will be out in about 30 days." The guy at Smittybilt said the part number will be "FN1750S4"

Will be working on obtaining a pair as soon as they are out!

2001--

I just placed an order for Aero-Tec's Premier One-Piece running board. Should be installed within two weeks. My SCrew is for work as well as play, and this style has a step for access to the bed of the truck as well as to the cab. It runs from wheelwell to wheelwell. Price is $499.00 plus tax, installed. It comes from the manufacturer unpainted. The dealer paints it to match the truck: four color coats and four clear coats.

It seemed like the best setup for my particular needs. We'll see.

Did you ever decide on the Nerf bars? The SS ones from Better Built I installed are very sturdy and s/b able to hold up with the salt and snow in Canada.

It should look great. You definitely want to install the mud flaps on the front tires. I believe the nerf bars take quite a beating from stones and even powder coating will chip.

Anyone have any experience with Smittybilt? I am thinking about buying these. Any +'s or -'s. Your opinion- what color/type would look good on a White XLT 4x4?? :-)

I had Smittybilt bumpers/nerf bars all around my Jeep Wrangler. They are top quality and the finish (black) was very durable. I recommend them.

Great looking nerf bars on the truck Supercrew!

I think I will go with the plan paintable black nerf bars and have them powder coated silver to match the bottom paint on mine....I think having the bars matching the bottom silver will look great!

Any comments on that idea?

Red face

Sorry for my ignorance, but I was not even thinking about adding the Nurf bars till I read about somebody's left door being hit. Do Nurf Bars actually prevent somebody (normal cars) of hitting the SCrew with their door? Here in Holland the parking spaces are very small and I'm looking for something to protect my doors, what are you're recomendations??? (can I order these online?)

Question

To ask the question a little more clearly: do the Nurf Bars extend far enough away from the side to prevent door dings?

I don't know about the Nerfs for the SCrew. But the factory cab steps sure do. (On the 4x4 at least...but I think they are high enough on the 4x2 to protect also.)

Question

Does anybody know if there is a clear picture available of the factory cab steps?
Also are there any comments on these, are they just in black? What about these guys (www.aerotecinc.com) I looked at them they look great, but do they last???
