Angry Annoying Sound...A/C dripping onto Exhaust Manifold

I was wondering if any of you SuperCrew owner's are having the same annoying thing happeneing to them. It seems that the A/C drips directly onto the exhaust manifold. This if really starting to annoy me now. Everytime I get out my truck all I hear is pshhhhhh pshhhhh pshhhhhh :-(. If yall are having the same problem please respond.

I would get that fixed somehow. I've seen steam pipes here at work crack over time from condensate dripping on them. Can't say the manifold will crack, but there is undue stress there from the heating/cooling over and over.

Ahhh yes. I have been getting that same sound as well. I do not run the A/C (sorry snow birds- but its only 70 degrees in San Diego)- only run the 'panel' mode right now.

Everytime I get out and close my drivers door, I hear the Hiss coming from underneath. It cant be good for truck. Maybe they can install some type of rubber hose that extends past the heat source, kind of like what you might find in the trunk water drain of a car- never had one of them car things before though.
In any event,it is time to check out the service department and parts department of my dealer any how!

Because of the rainy weather I have'nt tryed my A/C yet, but I noticed our two F150 supercabs at work with the 5.4 have the same engine/A/C setup as our Supercrews and don't make any noise that Iam awhere of. Does Ford know about this???

For what it's worth, and I am no expert, the noise is to some extent the cooling down of the exhaust system. The dripping as far as I could tell, crawling under the truck with my flashlight, comes from the exposed metal fittings of the A/C sytem just where they go into the firewall. The condensed water then drops down and hits, on my 4.6L, the sheetmetal surround near the catalytic converter and then to the ground. I couldn't find a spot where the water hit the exhaust.

By the way in crawling under there I found a 4-5" long, 1 1/2" diameter black cylindrical object fastened to and parallel to the exhaust pipe just in front of the muffler. Aside from a bomb does anybody know what this is?

Enjoy your truck everybody!

Question

Docker,

This is just a guess. But the black cylinder looking thing looks just like a weight. It may be mounted there to reduce the viabration of the exhaust pipe. The weight on the pipe will help deaden viabration.

Cool

Well Pilgrims, for what it is worth, now that Spring has come to Atlanta, I now have year two of the same sound.
Seems that the condensation from some part of the A/C assembly drops onto, I guess, the exhaust system or some other warmer part of the motor.

My dealer pretty much refuses to even investigate the symptom, as it is not a "problem".

For what it's worth, my wife's 98 Continental has the same "problem".

As I own a HobbyTown USA store, I have asked my RC Car/Plane guys to help me route a hose from the affected area to bypass any areas where the water would condense and make noise.

Question

Did anyone find out where the A/C condensate is dripping, and find a "fix" for this symptom? i noticed it right away, but a friend with a '99 4.6 Expy does not have the problem.
