Soft Tonneau
Just installed an Extang soft tonneau cover last night. These have just begun shipping from the manufacturer. Model number is 7730, cost $219 for any one looking for one. Fit is good, installation takes abut 30 minutes.
The tonneau cover rails mount on top of the plastic rail caps with "C clamp" like brackets. The tonneau rails have foam gaskets on their under side and sit on the plastic rail caps, and the "C clamp" reaches up under the rail and clamps the rail down. Basically nothing touches the truck that could mar it in any way. No drilling or mods of any type to the truck. There is a back rail that goes across the top of the tail gate that is easily removed once you unsnap the vinyl cover and roll it up. There are velcro straps up near the cab to tie the rolled cover up. There are two curved bows that cross the bed of the truck that support to top when it is installed. These easily slip out of their brackets when you want the bed open.
The thing I like about soft tonneaus is that in about 5 minutes you can have an open truck bed again to carry large items. You can also do it yourself, unlike a hard tonneau. The downside is that it is not lockable, so while it hides what you have in the bed, it does not really protect it from someone who really wants it.
