F 150 or S/D ??

Ok here is the dilema. I am looking at a new truck. Love the new 150's, but I run into a bit of a problem. I own a 26 ft travel trailer that when loaded max is 9500lbs. Yes ford claims no problem pulling, But my question is

A) Will it do this job safely
B) Will the truck be blowing a nut to do it.

Is anyone out here doing any heavy hauling with their 150's, and how does it perform?? Hills, crosswinds ect....

Any info would be fantastic.

Get a Super Duty, I wouldn't consider towing that much weight with a half-ton... That is a lot of weight to get going, keep steady, and most importantly, stop.

my old neighbor was a blacksmith and in the army

he had forge anvils and all the Blacksmithing wrks

he said his trailor weighed around 10k pounds and he used a Diesel SuperDuty
that was turbo or supercharged

dont know which charge but one of those

When he was stationed to new commands he would have to pull his own blacksmithing supplies where ever they sent him

Stopping the trailer should not be a problem with the f150, The trailer has it's own brakes that if set up properly would handle it. Also you would have a weight distributing hitch so that would be ok too. The only problem to me would be the engine. I would think that you would have to go to a diesel or v10.

I have an 03 supercrew that has the 5.4L rated to tow 8000 lbs.
I have a friend with an f250 with a 5.4L rated to tow 7800 lbs. Both two wheel drive, Both crew cabs. Payload and towing are two different things. I would go with the superduty with a bigger engine. I tow a 25' trailer that weighs 5350 fully loaded, while the truck is rated to tow 8000. I think that 8000 would be overdoing it.

Actually, the problem is not the engine. People have been moving more weight with less power for 40 years. The problem is available payload.

4WD Supercrew has a GVWR of 7200 pounds and available payload of about 1400 pounds with a common features/options and a full tank of fuel. Proper tongue weight for bumper pull trailers is 10-15%. So, even 10% is 950 pounds. Then there is whatever you put in the truck bed (firewood, generator, bikes, etc) and whatever you put in the cab (you, wife, kids, dog, etc). The numbers rarely add up to keep a 1/2 ton within GVWR when towing over 7000 pounds with a family.

So a gas f250 v-8 can tow the same as a diesel f250 v-8? I dont think so. If you look on the ford website the diesel with a 3.73 rear is rated to tow 15,700 while a 5.4L v8 gas with a 3.73 is only rated to tow 9700. Both 4x2 automatic.

a 5.4 superduty will out tow a 5.4 F-150 when it comes to safety plus the room in the F-250/F-350 is awsome compared to the F-150
