Unhappy possible remote start problem (I need help)

Went to start truck this morning with remote start wouldn't start, went out to start manually, it started, let run 5 minutes shut off got out tried to start remotely (because its cold outside and don't like to leave keys in) and started clocking, thought it was battery or starter. cleaned terminals, still clicking hammered starter, still clicking. Location of clicking motor compartment fuse box and connection box on fire wall from battery pos. and neg. Don't know what the connection box is on fire wall. Unsure if it could be a fuse or if there is a trip switch for remote. I don't know if remote starter is factory or aftermarket install, truck had it when purchested. If any one out there in ford truck land could help me I would greatly appreciate it. thanks bigdog.:help

yeah i had a 98 ranger ext cab that had an aftermarket remote start on it.

did the same thing.

it was built in to an aftermarket alarm so i just cut all the alarm wires and it worked fine after that lol.

thats a tricky situation and i wish i could be of more help to you, but your either gonna have to get out your tester and start testing connections, or take it to a car audo/alarm place and have them troubleshoot it.

As far as it not remote starting when it's cold normally means it is set on voltage not on a tach signal. Not hard to fix but it also depends on the remote starter brand and hard it is to reprogram. If you look under the dash you will see a black (normally) box with probably with about a dozen or so wires coming from it. Some will go to the ignition harness and other wires going to random places. If you pull down that box and look for a brand and model number, google it and most of the time you can find a installation manual that gives you programming and wiring diagrams. That should be a good place to start. But the knocking I have never heard before and I've been doing remote starters for about 7 years now.

Which system do you have? Can you post pis of the fobs at least. It could just be knocked out of programming. I had this issue myself this past week on my girlfriend' car. Travis at KC Autosound walked me through a few steps and bam, it was working again.

another thing to look into is, have your battery checked. pep boys or another parts shop should be able to check it for you. it may be an early warning sign of a dying battery, much like a car alarm going off for no reason when it is almost dead. That happened to me in my acura.
