Mr.Lube

Had to get an oil change done quick last week and went to Mr.Lube.I thought they did a good job.Today I had my truck into Ford to just get it checked over and get my 4x4 problem fixed.Everything was under warrenty but when I got the invoice of warrenty repairs this one was on there.
Pinion Seal leaking bad R&R Driveshaft And Pinion Flange..No Damage Replace Seal and fluid.....All under warrenty..But if it was leaking bad why wouldn't the bonehead under my truck notice.I will make sure it goes to the dealer from now on...Lesson learned.

It all depends on who works on your truck, it would have been nice if they let you know that they noticed an leak while under your truck.

My advice, FWIW, is never, ever go the quicky lube places. They are just there to get you in and out. Most don't even bother to use the drain plug which is probably a good thing as they'd probably strip it. The monkey at your place was changing the oil. You never said to check anything else! It's so bad here, that an unnamed place in So. Cal. is under numerous lawsuits. The dealer hits you pretty good for an oil change that can easily be done at home and verified to be done correctly every time.

Changing own oil

I have a 2008 F-150 5.4L and prefer to change my own oil. I have only 2500 miles at this time. The local dealer here wants $45.00 for the above service. I could also go to the Jiffy Lube, but have heard many people tell about there experiences there. If I do my own and keep the receipts, will my warranty be effected in any way!!!!!

It will not effect your warranty.

I have done my own oil changes on my 2 previous Fords. Never had an issue with warranty. My 92 Ranger had 2 engine rebuilds under warranty (garbage 4 cyl) and the dealer never batted an eye when they realized I had never been to them for service.

Dealers in Canada are running $80-$100 per hour for service. My work truck gets a basic oil change for about $70.

Why not look for a really good small garage with a mechanic you can trust. There are plenty.

I pay $30 at my dealer, sometimes $25 with a coupon. I don't mess with it for that. If you do it yourself, keep your receipts and a maintenance log.

There's a place on Fords web site called My Ford. Any time my dealer does any work on my truck, they record it here. Any time I have something done elsewhere or I do self maintnance, I record it as well. Keeps a coplete maintenance record for my truck.

https://myford.fordvehicles.com/serv...name%3DFordCom

Just to be safe, I also keep an Excel spreadsheet.

I agree. The dealer I bought my truck from offers free oil changes for life and the waiting room is separated from the service bay by a window, so I'm able to watch everything they do. I like that they top off all the fluids, check everything else, and tell you what they find. ("You'll need two new tires in about 5,000 miles," for example.)

I had to take my girlfriend's Corolla to Jiffy Lube one time. When I dropped off the car, I asked them to keep the old oil filter for me. When I picked up the car, they had "forgotten" and already threw out the old one. Hmmm. Little did they know that I had marked the old filter with a Sharpie. When I got the car home and started looking under the hood, I noticed an oil filter with the exact same Sharpie mark on it. It didn't really matter that I had marked it, because they didn't even bother wiping it clean to make it look new. They were a little surprised when I went back and called them out on it.

x2, Go to the dealer and get raped, go to Mr. Lube and your lucky to have the oil changed like they say.

Stay away from the dealer and quick-lube places. Do the work yourself or find a local wrench turner.

I pay $25 to $30 at the dealer for an oil change, I don't consider that getting raped. It's not worth messing with it myself, for that.
