I just brought my 2005 Lariat supercharged in for service due to a clogged cat at 15,000 miles?

Anyway they gave me a 2008 F150 Supercrew 4x4 with the 4.6. All in all I found it plenty powerful around town and on the highway. I honestly do know why so many feel the 4.6 is a weak enging in that big model. It kinda made me think I wasted my money of the 5.4 with supercharger.

I noticed the 2008 was more bouncy than my truck and the steering was alot looser? The truck only had 11,000 miles on it? It also seemed to have less sound insulation?

Are these indeed differences between a lariat and a xlt or is it all in my head?

Not saying my 5.4 with supercharger is slow cause it will fly almost when pressed but I just didnt expect the 4.6 to pull the big model as easily as it did.

 

4.6 doesn't tow as well as the 5.4, guys am I on the right track here?

 

It pulled a 20 foot boat with no problems? Anyway not trying to start a vs. thread but just stating the old 2v 4.6 is not as bad as I expected.

 

I had 4.6 that was awesome in my 97.

 

my 4.6 does fine. its farely quick. i can beat ricers around town.

 

My son's Hot Wheels truck can tow a 20" boat.

 

I would hope anything could tow a 20" boat !! Even a Prius ! Although, what good a 20" boats does ya is beyond me !


I have a 4.6, lifted with larger tires. No tuner, not re-geared and I tow regularly, it does just fine. Even pulling my junk up incredibly steep, rocky, un-even terrain. I like my 4.6 just fine.


Glad to hear someone give an honest report on it. Its no power house, but it isn't the dog most people on this site make it out to be. Glad ya liked it !
