Looking at 2003 crew, a few questions?

getting tired of the noise, the rough ride and the $50 oil changes of the old F250 diesel. I don't really need that heavy of a truck anymore so I'm looking at trading it in for 2003 F150 supercrew that I saw this weekend.
It's got the 4.7L V8, XLT, dark green with tan cloth. Truck looks real clean and has 97K miles on it. The dealer is asking $13K for the truck.
What kind of gas mileage would this truck get? I only pull a small lawnmower trailer these days so I'm sure the small V8 will have all the power I need. Any problems or complaints with this truck I'm looking at?

4.6 v8 btw

real world i would expect 12-14 city depending on driver, and 18-19 highway

I would try to talk them to about 10k for it if possible, but even 11 or 12k would still be a decent deal.

I whole heartedly agree with Patman03SprCrw. $13K for an 03 with almost a 100,000 miles on the odometer in todays gas crunch seems sorta high. They probably gave $8-9K on it when it was traded in.

Sorry can't comment on used truck market, but can pass on my fuel data- On a long trip from Verona Ontario Canada to Florida our avaerage fuel consumption was 17 U.S. mpg for a 1500 mile trip with hiway speeds of 70 -80. '06 screw truck has 3:55 gears, but this was about the same mpg for my 01 Screw with 3:73 grears oh and 5.4 l engine
Most folks on this site say that there is no noticable difference in the fuel consumption between the 4.6 and 5.4. So why bother with the small engine?

If your stuck on the older 03 body style then go for it I had an 03 Screw myself and loved every minute of it when the lease ran out I got the 06 Lariat, however I think you can do newer for the same money, I have seen some 04-05 models around here, Lexington, for that same price or just a tad more, less then $15k.
FWIW my friend tried to trade in his 06 XLT with less then 40k miles in they would only do 18K on trade.

I just ran an NADA value on an 03 XLT screw with 97,00 miles and dint check any options as I didn't know how this one was equipped, ie sunroof power seats etc. and average trade in came to $7725, high retail was $11025

My .02 - I'd buy the 03, but not for $13K... You could probably get one with the same milage for cheaper, $10-$11K depending on condition and options sounds about right.

03 is one of the best years for the f150 IMO (if not thee best). The had all the bugs worked out by then. I think they are more comfortable also on the inside then the newer f150's. I car pooled in an 06 for about a year and could tell a big difference. Parts are cheap, up keep is relatively easy if you do your own work. Plus, if you ever do want to mod it (CAI, Free torsion lift in front on the 4x4s, etc...) You have options that aren't going to cause you possible headaches on an 04, like spark plug issues or running lean with a CAI.

I love the look of the 04+s, but my 03 is the best truck I've ever owned. Just my expeience.

Just saw an 01 screw XLT with 70,000 miles for $9900 in the local car classifieds, just something to compare to.

Take a look at current Buy It Now Auctions.

Price seems high given the miles.

2003 Supercrew...

I purchased a 2003 F-150 Supercrew 4X4 big Triton engine loaded with 75K for 13,499. I can go around 320 in a gas tank with A/C on.

You can get a regular Supercrew for about with an average of 70-80K for about 9k-11K. add 1400 if you want a 4X4 (roughly)
Of course you get better mileage with the V-6 or small Triton engine and 4X2

I'll take $13k for my 2003 Lariat 4x4 5.4L with 54k miles. $9k max for that truck.

I'd say shop around. I just picked up a '06 Screw with leather and 14,707 on the clock for 16k.

As far as gas milage I had an '02 Screw with the 4.6 and was getting around 15mpg depending on the weight of the right foot.
