Box Length & Wheelbase

Hi All,

On the supercrew, from what i can tell the common box length is a
5.5' or a 6.5' box. Are these the same on the extended cab? It looks like a lot of the extended cab trucks have either a 6' or 6.5' box unless the 5.5' just looks larger without the massive supercrew in front of it.

Not positive but I think Supercrews are 5.5 and extended cab is 6.5
Oh,,and I think you could also get the extended cab with an 8" bed.

RCab can go 6' or 8'
SCabs go 5.5' or 6.5'
SCrews go 5.5' or 6.5'

*w/o bed extenders that is.

You could only get the 6.5' box in the Screws after 07 if i'm not mistaken.

Thanks guys. I'll be buying a new (to me) 04+ F-150 in November and have been watching the market for the last 6 months. It's pretty hard to find these trucks with the 6.5' box (in BC anyway). I'm thinking about buying the scab apposed to the screw to shorten/lighten up the truck a little bit because i need the 6.5' for work / play. Besides that, i only have people in the back once every couple of weeks. I'm definitly stoked about the price of these trucks in Canada now as i can buy an 04+ lariat for around 18k that has under 60k miles. Last year i'd be looking at about 22k+ but thanks to the price of fuel, people are dumping them.

Truck of Choice:
04+ F-150 Lariat Scab 6.5' box

Why can't you use the Ford build tool to find out what is availible today?

Clarifications:

Regular cab 6.5' and 8' bed
Supercab 5.5', 6.5', and 8'
Supercrew, 5.5' or 6.5'

Majority of Supercabs are 6.5' beds. Majority of Supercrews are 5.5' beds. 6.5' bed on Screws starting in mid 2006. There is no 6' bed on the F-150, only Ranger and older GM full sized trucks.

Wheelbased of -03 Screws was the same as the extended cab 6.5' bed truck, 138". Basically, trade 1' of bed space for 1' of cab space. 2004+ uses different wheel bases and frames for the Screw and Supercab.

I had a 1999 Supercab with the 6.5' bed and now the 2003 Screw 5.5' bed. There have been zero times in the last 5 years when I wish I had the extra 1' of bed. 8' lumber needs the tailgate down anyway. The balck pic above shows how it (does not) fits in a parking space. And I'm not sure if 1' foot would fit in my garage. It'd be close.

Here are your choices for mid-2006 and newer F-150 trucks.

Wheelbases:

Reg Cab 6.5 bed - 126.0

Reg Cab 8.0 bed - 144.5

Super Cab 5.5 bed - 132.5

Super Cab 6.5 bed - 144.5

Super Cab 8.0 bed - 163.0

Screw Cab 5.5 bed - 138.5

Screw Cab 6.5 bed - 151.0

I have an '06 SCREW with a 6.5' box. I wouldn't have bought it, except it was the right price, right place, etc. I'm not sure I like the proportions as much as the 5.5' box but... now that I have it... I like it. I use all of that bed, all of the time.

I don't know if I'd miss the extra foot or not; as with most things... you might just make do with what you have, but if I have a choice, next time, I'll get the longer box again.

I can't fit the thing in my garage anyway (it's too tall)... or a parking space (with the trailering mirrors on it seems like it's about 12' wide)... so I park at the end of the lot and walk... maybe I'll loose an ounce.

Oh... and I can fit a dozen pieces of 8' lumber in mine, under the tonneau, with the tailgate closed (I put it on an angle); and if I've got a some 8' plywood or sheetrock in it, it doesn't stick out past the tailgate... I like that, though I don't know why.

They're a heck of a nice truck, either way... Good luck with your purchase.
