I am out
Did you run the numbers in a spreadsheet? Was your truck paid off? Say you went from 12mpg to 24mpg in that Fusion for a $400/mo payment. Gas would have to be $5.50/gal to make up for the payment difference if you drive 21k miles per year.
I got a new DD in March when gas was about $3/gallon. My truck is paid off and now I have a loan payment of $300, plus additonal insurance. My break even point was $5/gallon on fuel alone, but I still got it. I am keeping my truck, though for truck purposes (towing and hauling). With resale values dropping on anythingwith a V8 and the usefulness I still ahve for it, even once a month, I'm keeping as long as I can afford it. My new car only gets 24-26mpg, but it's more fun to drive and should be a little cheaper to maintain. We end up driving this thing more with my family that the minivan that 1) is a lease, and 2) gets 20-21mpg. Not much savings vs. driving the minivan, but again, this is more fun.

No my truck is not paid off I have only had it for about a year and a half. I am driving about 450 to 600 miles aweek and only getting about 12.5 mpg so it is getting hard to stay afloat.
It has gotten so bad out in CA i'm happy when a couple of days go by without gas jumping up a couple more cense.

I traded down from a SCrew 250 to my SCrew 150. I drive an '86 Ranger to work (40 mile round trip, 22 mi gal) and leave my 150 for weekends. I would rather drive my 150, but 10 trip vs 3 on $50 worth of gas. + I want to keep my 150's mileage down.
my truck is a 25 gallon tank, and isnt bad when i compare it to my jobs trucks. dodge 2500 and chevy 2500. over 100 to fill.
but the whole gas thing is insane. like others have said you cant even enjoy your truck anymore. everybody is resorting to little jap peices of crap, and i dont think i will ever be able to drive one
