Question 2000 f-150 XLT .. yay or nay?????

OK, I crashed my truck about 5 months ago so I have been looking for a new vehicle for some time. My friend lent me his truck for the past month and offered to sell it to me.

I'm located in Boston MA. It is a 2000 f-150 58,000 MILES, SUPER CAB, XLT PACKAGE, 7700 GVW PACKAGE, AUTOMATIC, 4X4, 5.4 TRITON V8, All POWER, A/C, ALLOY WHEELS & PRIVACY GLASS.It is one owner and he has kept up with the maintenance and oil changes every 3,000 miles. It does need new tires as two off them have a nail in them. And the right side of the rear bumper is dented as you can see in one of the pics.

I attached some pics . He wants $8,000. So let me know yay or nay?????

Thats not a supercrew cheif. Screws have 4 full size doors, like mine pictured below. First year for the screw was 2001.

That being said, looks like a good truck. If you like it, go for it.

Thanks for the input.

Not sure if I'd be better off starting a new thread or if I can get a quick answer here but..Seeing the first thing I will have to do is replace the tires. Right now the tires read LT245/75R16 (wheels are stock 16") seem to have about 4 1/2" clearance from the closest part of the front tire and fender. OBV I want to go bigger (just for appearance..no off roading)

so I have a few questions.

How big can I go without a lift?
Is the gear ratio in this truck suited to work well with the max tire size?
Other things I should be aware/concerned about??

Check the axle ratio of that truck by lookign at the driver's door sticker Axle Code. You can look it up by searching here for axle code. Hopefully it is 4.10LS.

The problem with larger tires is they get heavy quickly. A 33" tire can weigh 50% more than those stock tires, which combined with maybe 8% lower gearing can really hamper acceleration, braking, and fuel economy. That said, 33" tires fit with no worries (285/75R16). 35" tires might fit by cranking the torsion bar in the front.

Price seems okay. Check it out @ kbb.com and edmunds.com.

Thanks APT, I don't see anything around the Axle code that looks like 4.10LS. Maybe you can help me out. I attached a link of a pic of the door sticker.

On that sticker near the bottom, says Axle and under it says 26. That's the 3.73 open diff. I had 3.73 on my 99 Supercab 5.4L and loved it's performance with stock 32" tires.

AH, I see.
So should I stay away from the 305/75R16 and maybe go with 285/75R16?

If you have a 3.73 rear end, I'd say you could safely run 35's without too much power loss. That requires a bit of lift though. If it makes any difference, my screw has a 3.55 rearend, is lifted 6" on 285/70/17 BFG A/T tires, and I get about 13mpg.

My 2003 Screw has 3.73 axle ratio and heavy 33" tires. The performance differences are noticable compared to 300 pounds extra in the bed of my 99 Scab (the weight delta between scab/Screw). I miss that truck. Everyone's butt dyno is different. Your reference (dunno what your last truck was) may be different than mine. Some people (wouldn't be me) are happy with 35" tires and 3.55 axle ratio.

Keep the tires light. If you want want 33" tires, which I think look the best on stock 4WD F-150's, get a light one. Looks like all tires in that size are LT vs. P-rated, bummer. THe Firestone Destination A/T looks relatively light @ 51 pounds vs. maybe as low as 41 pounds for that OEM tire. That's a good tire, and lighter than the 57-60 pounds of some others in that size.

A 305/70R16 would look good IMHO, but those cost a bit more and are heavier.
