towing w/5.4 S-crew--rear shock question

hello all,
my 06 S-crew is stock except for 2.5AS in the front and Nittio 285/60/18 TG's. I am going to tow my Lightning from Florida to Kentucky this summer.
I would like to know if I should add airbags to the rear or would a nice pair of Rancho shocks do the trick? I have seen some pics of our trucks loaded down pretty good in the rear while towing a car so thats what made me wonder.

And here is my S-crew with the new TG's and running boards installed

OK any help apprecaited,
Edward

A good set of HD shocks such as Rancho or Bilsteins sure would not hurt! The stockers are junk!.........

sounds good thats what I thought. I will put the Rancho 9-ways on it. I use them on my 95 Lightning for drag racing and beleive it or not they work pretty darn well.

Thanks again,
Edward

Load your trailer correctly and you'll have no problems. Center the load over the rear axle of the trailer and let it carry the load. Depends on the trailer, if the axles are to far back turn the truck around and back her on. That way more of the weight is on the axles. Comprende?? If all your weight is forward of the axles you will get bumper dive.

Sometimes it is impossible to put all of the weight of a load centered over the trailer axles, such as when I load my Deere X-595 Diesel with the front end loader attachment, & rear end weight box loaded up, onto the trailer. The majority of the weight of the engine & loader attachment is well north of the trailer axles!..........In these instances HD Shocks will help out imensely!......

Your springs are what handles the load. Shocks are just dampeners. Almost any shock is better than Ford stock shocks.

I run the Bilsteins for towing my TT and really like how they work over stock.
When and where in KY are you going to be, we could set up a small meet with those who can make it.

wow I did not know the stock shocks were so bad??

Well I sure did find out the stock tires are junk!!....

There is going to be a Chevy 454ss race in London Kentucky on Aug 2. They have invited the Gen 1 Lightning crowd to join them and alot of us are planning to attend. So if you want to see some pretty quick Lightnings (9.99-12.4 range) then London,KY is the place to be

I'll post up some pics of my S-crew and Lightning in another thread

Thanks all,
Edward
