One of the things I've feared the most in my area happen today. I got a broken windshield driving behind a gravel truck. I made it a point to drive at least an eighth of a mile behind the gravel truck but it didn't save my windshield. Here you can't make them pay for it as long as the truck has a cover on it's load. You just have to bite the bullet and dig into your own pocket.

Depending insurance companies, I have Nationwide, you may have to pay deductable but in my case I paid $0.00. It was a no fault accident they said. My window just cracked one night on the highway all the way accross.
I called Nationwide the next day, talked to a lady and she was like we ll wait, let me look into something before I charge you, sure enough I had full coverage and since it was a no liability accident and no one was at fault I didnt pay a cent.
Got it done at work the next day, and knock on wood, its all good now.
But I know it was going to be 450 for a new one.
Good Luck!

Yeah windshields are free in Florida as long as you have full coverage. I have had to take them up on that a few times over the years for various reasons.

I drive a gravel train and I'm sure I've taken out a few windshields.I've had people follow me and try to get my info and I just give them my companies info and they call my boss,he tells them sorry and claim it on your insurance and thats it but I always feel bad when it happens. As long as I have the mud flaps to proper lenght and wipe off all the extra gravel and dirt that is sitting on the back of the trailer after getting loaded and unloaded, thats the best i can do so I just tell myself that.
Its a safety issue too.. Any chip or crack in a windshield compromises its overall performance and safety. They should be dealt with as quickly as possible whether filled in if its a chip or having the whole windshield replaced if its a crack. Most states its illegal to drive with a cracked windshield.
You might want to call a windshield repair service! I had the same thing happen to me in a car I used to own, they came buy & injected some glass epoxy junk into the damaged area & made it disappear for the most part! It was pretty cheap also!...........
I feel your pain. I had my new 2005 FX4 for about 30 minutes when a lawn care company's truck flipped a rock into my windshield. Same problem. He's not liable under state law, and insurance companies aren't required to replace winshields free of charge either (keeps our insurance rates down). I had the dealer replace it and forked out the $100 insurance deductable.
When I was stationed in NM, I must have had a rock magnet. I was replacing a windshield every 6 months. Safelite always had great deals on factory "seconds". The "faults" in the windshields were always a small scratch at the edge of the windshield... nothing you'd ever notice.
