Step bars or no step bars?

Just took the factory chrome step bars off my 07 2wd xlt screw just to see what it would look like. I'm not sure either way, can't decide. What do yall think, leave them off or put them back on? Give me your opinion and support with pics of your truck if possible. Thanks.

I'm more of a fan with having them on, especially if you're thinking about lifting your truck. I have plenty of pics in my gallery of my truck with them prior to the lift.

Agree
If you plan to lift leave them on, they are nice to have, but don't forget this is your truck

i hate the damn things, don't have them on my truck, and won't be putting them on. i don't plan on lifting my truck more than 4'', and they won't be going on even if i get the the lift. btw, i'm also only 5'3'' tall.

Well, chances are he is not lifting a 2wd truck. Possible, but not likely.

I don't like them, but I'm tall. I rarely use them, so most of the time I get my pants dirty by rubbing them on the steps since they stick out from the body.

At first I hated them too and I wanted to take them off... I`m 6'3'' so I don`t really need them.

However...

After seeing people smash their doors in parking lots against my steel steps on a couple of occasions... I decided to just keep them on. Without the steps I`m sure there would be quite a few dings on my doors by now...

As stated above the rails are excellent anti parking lot ding devices. There are many people who don't care and will throw their door open. One guy went so far as to wait for me and tell me my truck damaged his door when he opened it. I told him too bad, next time he should hang onto his door rather than throwing it open against the car next to him!

I use the rails to get in and out and all my family & friends use the steps to get in and out. I have been commented to that the rails are required to get in and out (this is from a Honda driver).

Besides, I think the chrome factory rails look good.

I like having mine on. I also think it makes a truck look better if there chrome.

Anyone noticed any deterioration (bending, sagging, bolts loosing, etc.) of the steps from continuous use?

I put Nerf bars on my '97 F-150 when my wife was pregnant so she could get into the truck easier. The nerf bars pretty much eliminated door dings. I put step/nerf bars on all my vehicles now.

The Nerf bars on my '97 are Westin stainless steel. They're 9 years old and are still bright & shiney with no rust anywhere. The OEM SS bed rails started to rust after 5 years. I'm pretty happy with the Westin steps I've used over the years. The OEM Nerf bars that are encased in plastic hold up well too.

My truck is now 12 months old. The bars are solid and rust free.

The factory steps on my 2007 Screw saved my truck once from a coin operated car wash wand that got loose from my hand, it hit the step so hard that it put a mark into it, however it saved the side of my truck from a huge dent..............

Keep 'em on.

The stock chrome rails look great, useful for others who aren't used to getting into a tall ride like your F150 and I'd bet they're also a little extra safety factor for side impact crashes. True, there are downsides like they collect dirt that gets on pants legs, etc., but that's just an excuse to wash your truck!
