Rear Seat Conversion
Rear Seat Conversion
I posted this in the interior care section, but thought id post here too.
So after seeing the amazing new super duty king ranch with the rear buckets, I decided that I want that in my truck. My only problem is, I like having my seats fold down, and I use the storage compartment behind the seat. My questions are:
1) how hard would it be to get another 40 part of the 40/60 rear bench and just mount it in place of the 60?
2) how hard would it be to fabricate a console for in the back?
If i can get a console for the back, that would completely solve my subwoofer location issues (adding an infinity basslink, which I could just stick inside the console. What do you guys think? I buddy at work said that the harley supercrews came with rear captains...anyone have any more info on this?

Getting the 40 part shouldn't be hard. You can check ebay, junk yard, etc. Some things to think about:
1. Is your current interior Leather (If so, you will eventually need an upholster to make any adjustments to the seats)?
2. How mechanically inclined are you?
3. Have you worked with fiberglass?
4. Have you painted automotive products before?
Reason i point out these questions is that I have done this mod on a lightning I traded for my Screw
, well sort of... i'll explain. Basically I took our the 60 part of my stock lightning seat, took it to a quality upholster and had them remove the "jump seat". After they finished this, I made a template for my center console out of cardboard. Then I used this template to make a fiberglass center console, which I customized and painted.
What you would have to do, is remove your current seat, if your interior is cloth, simply take it to a reputable upholster (still mounted in the truck), explain you want him/her to cut the seat and make it match the 40 on the other side. They will take care of the seat easily (possibly leather interiors as well). After getting your seat back, you will need to cut/mod the seat mounting brackets. This may take some welding (or ingenuity) to get this to function properly. After this, simply install or fab up your own console and install and enjoy.
Good luck, and sorry about the spelling... i'm too lazy to spell check.

I saw pics of one of these conversions on this site earlier. They took the 60 out and put a 40 from another truck in its place, modifed some brackets and he said the only drawback was that the lever was on the inside of the seat and a little more difficult to reach. It diddn't look to hard. Good luck!
