Switching from 4x4 back to 2x4....

I'm new to the F-150's. I just recently bought my truck. So please bare with me...

On the way home, I stopped the truck completely and switch it to 4L just for kicks as I drove into my apartment building complex. Once I stopped I switched it back to "2" something. To put it back into 2 wheel drive. But on the dash it still says "4x4 Low". I turned the truck's ignition off and on and it still has the "4x4 Low" on the dash.
Why is it still showing that?
Thanks guys!

To shift in or out of 4 low, the truck must be on, stopped, and in nuetral. I'm assuming you put it in park then tried switching to 2 high. If it is still in 4 low, get in, put the **** on 4 low, start it, shift to nuetral, turn **** to 2 high, wait a second or two and you should be good to go.

Also - never put it in 4 lo on dry pavement. Now you Can do that for short distances if you go completely straight. Otherwise, it will bind the front.

Actually, do not use either 4wd modes on dry pavement. If you have the owner's manual, read the section on using 4wd. It explains how and when to shift into 4wd modes and what they are for.

Assuming you have the electronic transfer case (switch vs. lever), it is a good idea to engage 4wd about once a month to actuate the solenoids so they do not stick. Just do it on a dirt.
