can i make a regular f-150 4x4 awd?
hey all,
looking into getting a s-crew f-150, i really want the awd system on the harley version, but don't want all the harley badging (and the harley price)
can i (or is there somebody out there) convert the part time 4wd to awd? i saw in the brochure that the transfer case is from the navigator, so i guess it wouldn't be that hard to drop that part in, but will i need other computer controls or a different trans or anything?
thanks in advance

cpaggie is right johnboy, iirc... with awd there is a center differential in the transfer case which allows all the wheels to turn at different speeds without making those horrible noises.. lol
if you have 4wd try throwing it into high and making a large circles in a parking lot, if you steadily kame the circles smaller you will start to hear the front wheels chirping... don't start out w/ small circles or you could blow up your 4wd system or break an axle or something. if it was raining just a little too that would add some insurance too.
i'd really like the roush package on a lariat w/ awd... what i'm going for is a ford version of the silverado ss or sierra denali

I dont know about the current models, but my 03 in 4HI can make sharp turns with no shuddering or hesitation or noise on dry pavement. Found that out in the winter time going from ice to clean pavement. My 97 Passport was different though, sharp turns and it shuddered bad. When my truck is in 4Hi it feels like my old Subaru outback or Eagle Talon AWD. Smooth. 4LO, however, I bet is way different.
