Waterproof cargo carrier?

My dealer promised me the hard top lid before my trip, but I am going to Virginia Beach tomorrow and no lid. Are the cargo carriers that people put on the top of their cars waterproof? I have a lot of stuff to put in the bed and need it to stay dry. Anyone have any suggestions? The big retail stores are close by, just want to know what to buy before I go. Also, I never had a pickup amd wasn't sure how to pack the stuff in the bed to keep it in. Boogie boards and stuff, lay them down and put bags of clothes etc on them? Thanks for any and all help

I bought a couple of those large plastic containers from walmart, the lids lock but I run a strap around it anyway. I've made several long trips in the rain and no water inside. And it's cheap.

Just put suitcases or whatever in plastic bags.
Hefty makes a thick one.

What are you gonna do with a cartop carrier when your lid come in?
