Why does my new '07 SuperCrew have this on the fuel cap?
I noticed on the fuel cap of my new '07 XLT F150 SuperCrew there is the recognizable emblem of BP (British Petroleum).
I believe Ford struck a deal with BP, probably for their corporate gas cards, and therefore recommends BP fuel for their vehicles. I don't have the Flex fuel and the gas cap says on it, Ford Recommends Using BP Fuel with the BP logo on it. I use BP as much as I can though because they do not buy their oil from the Middle East.
Since theres no Bp stations nearby Ive never worried about it. but I think its just a marketing gimmick. Seems strange to me to live right at the door of one of the largest bp refineries in the US and not have a bp station for several hundred miles.
oh, fwiw, bp has significant presence all over the world including the middle east. heres 1 page from their website.

Ford, BP & DuPont formed a partnership several years ago to research Bio fuels and alternative fuel sources. Even though they're partner companies, I'm sure BP pays Ford to pimp their fuel.
Ford & BP are doing a lot of co-research on bio-fuels. BP is a major player in bio-butanol which can be used in any gas engine, unlike the corrosive ethanol fuel. Ford is also pushing cellulosic ethanol which is not as dependent on food crops as the current blend.

We have brand new 2007 "Fleet" XL model F-150's at work. I filled up my truck today and it doesn't have the BP ad on the gas cap. I just randomly looked at five other trucks in the fleet and none of them had the BP ad either. The only label was on the gas door saying you could fill them up with gasoline or E85.
BP didn't have E85 back in the late 80's and early 90's when I was living and working in Michigan but I did use their fuel and I really liked it.
Between BP and Exxon, they gave the best fuel mileage and performance of any brand named fuel I've used.
BP was a super clean fuel. When I replaced the fuel filter after using nothing but BP, there was absolutely no particulates in the filter. After using other brand named fuels, replacing the fuel filter with the same mileage, the filters were full of dirt and other junk.

I spent $30k plus on my '07 F150FX4. I damn well better know what the flex fuel symbol on the gas cap meant!!! Everyone who bought a vechicle with it on theirs and was not told what it means by the salesman is here by given a free baseball bat smack to the head of the dealer.
