Pirelli Scorpion Impressions?
Pirelli Scorpion Impressions?
I wasn't quite sure of the performance I was going to get out of the $100 OEM 20 inch Scorpions. Even though they're in the top 5 on Tire Rack I was a bit wary. From off road in Wyoming & Colorado, to snow in Utah, to down pours in Tennessee & North Carolina, they have performed spectacularly. I can't believe how fast I take turns now (the other 6 F-150's I owned never drove this well).
The ride is a bit rougher as the dealers insist on pumping the Scorpions up to 40-44 lbs of air pressure even though the door sticker says 35. They do ride softer at 35 lbs, but I lose 1-2 MPG's doing so.

40-44lbs?
Did your dealership really recommend you keep them at 40-44lbs? Just bought a 07 Lariat last week with the Scorpions and was wondering if I should get em over the 35lbs to increase mpg on a long trip I'm taking tomorrow.....
40-44 sounds pretty high

Last I looked those were $125 each on tire rack...was I looking at the wrong ones?
The sidewall on the tires says 44 lbs max pressure. My dealer in Casper, WY and a dealer in Salt Lake both put them at/over 42 lbs after changing the oil. I got my oil changed in NC recently and talked to service department manager about the tires. He said Ford recommends 40 psi on the 20 inch tires. The ride is a bit rough as compared to 35 psi, but at 40 psi I'm getting 19 MPG on the highway. I can't complain.
They were $107 on Tirerack when I bought the truck... a heck of a lot cheaper (inexpensive) than the 18 inch OEM tires on my '05 FX4

My truck came from the factory with 45 psi. Of course, the truck ran very rough on the pavement. Reduced it at 35 psi and the ride is oh so smooth. True, you can always add cold air pressure to 40 or more psi but you need to be concerned with the rise of air pressure in the tires on long trips.
I like the ride and look of the tread. I haven't experienced a lot of rain yet or mud.
My air pressure sensor came on this morning, so this thread is very timely. I'll see what the low reading was that triggered the sensor when I get home and also check the pressure of the others. I have 3k miles.
