Come home to a DENT!!!!
Come home to a DENT!!!!
I come home from work and find a BIG dent in my driver's side door. Along with a card from the Frankfort Police. I haven't gotten to talk to the officer yet, but I think my neighbor was having some work done at her house and their van backed into my truck
I just finished installing RAAMmat in the door, completely sealing it up. Now my power window makes some helacious noise. But the door still shuts and everything still works.
Will insurance cover the cost of the extra sound insulation I installed? If so, is that something the repair place will put in or me? I loaded the doors up with the RAAMmat. Inner skin, covered all the holes in the door, outer door skin, the WORKS!! CRAP!!!!!
At least there was a police report filed and I won't have to pay anything. I just hope the sound insulation gets paid for, since they'll have to rip it all out.
It's enough to make my PTSD kick off. I need to go shoot something....

You want me to come over there? We'll find the guy and rough him up a bit.
You should be fine via insurance. Further, if it's fixable in this fashion, I'd push for paintless dent removal. If the metal hasn't been stretched or similar, they should be able to pop it back out. By doing this, you hang on to the factory paint -- which will almost always be a bit more durable than a respray (especially at insurance company pay rates) and you'll know that it's still all 'stock'.
The PDR guys can probably work around your mat insulation.
You should feel really lucky that they actually called the police and ran it up the flag pole. Many would've driven off like it had never happened. Accidents happen -- they suck -- but, at least the guy bellied up to the bar.
You need to shoot something.... don't you have a helicopter or something that you can borrow (hot loaded)? I'm sure you could find a nice abandoned mine or something down in Pike County to blow up.
Let me know if you need anything, Daryl. Take it easy, bud.

If you were claiming it on your own insurance you 'might' have a hard time getting mods covered unless they were added to the policy. But since it sounds like it will be the offending parties insurance paying for the fix you shouldn't have any problems getting them to pay for the mods.
Here's hoping all is fixed and forgotten soon.

Phew!!
Today I met with the adjuster for thier Ins. company. I made him come to the hangar. Something about the helicopters running up and flying around adds a little something when dealing with people, IMO.
Anyway, he said that I'd need a new door and that he'd cut me a second check for the cost of replacing the sound deadener! I had already gotten a quote from RAAMaudio about how much it was going to cost, so he wrote that number seperately and said I'd get two checks. Their even going to replace the tint on my window that was scratched due to the door being all ganked up.
So far, everything is working out ok. I'm leaving for a trip next Thursday and will have to take whatever rental I get. Should I rent a minivan or a big SUV? I got 4 adults and one 5 yr old to drive to South Carolina. I"m going to need all the room I can get.
The repair place I went to said they're going to repaint the whole side of the truck so the paint will be the same. Including removing/replacing all the pinstriping, door molds and window trim. They've got some kind of gee-whiz paint matching system thats supposed to be really accurate. I guess we'll see.
Thanks
Daryl

Man, I hate to hear that about your dent. At least the insurance is paying up. Usually, it is hit and run, nobody saw anything. I hope the repair work turns out good for you.

Well, you can come over and help me out... A f250 backed into me at thte liquor barn last Sat. Got a nice sized ball hitch dent in my bumper. He came out and found me as well and will be paying for the replacement. Didn't know what or how much I would get outta him at first. He came out in his work clothes and a box of wine. Classy. But a great fellow none the less. It might be the time to order that Roush bumper that I have been eyeing for a long time!

man!
