dissapointed in NJ

2006 Screw 5.4 355 rear Great truck to be in , really a Hog To drive .

Im so dissapointed in this truck , I expected so much More . Really bad excelleration Unless i Floor it, and the shifts are horrible. Gas Milliage ?? driving like Grandma i can squeeze out maybe 11/13 mpg 50 / 50 combination of Highway and city. If I drive it hard enough to keep up with trafic {which is really pushing this Truck} im around 10 mpg
Ive takin it to My dealership and they tell me that there is nothing wrong with the truck. Im at my wits end . anyone else experiencing similar and If so what If anything did u do to improve the performence

thanks in advance

Larry

Edge tuner or Xcal2 tuned by Troyer. Changes the whole disposition of these trucks. One other thing. You might try disconnecting the battery for about 30 min, then everytime you drive it for several cycles, drive it hard. Yours may have stored some very passive driving habits in the computer and may need to "relearn".

Driving style has more influence on performance and fuel economy than anything else. If you are pushing the gas more, downshifting more, you'll use more gas. In this case, an aftermarket tuner may help improve shifting enough for you so that you get get the acceleration and fuel economy improvements.

GET THE TUNES!!!!!!!!! Sorry for all caps, but listen to the guys driving the same trucks. I put tunes on and I'm very happy. My '04 SC 4X4 was slower than my old XLT 4.6. Highly recommended. You will not be disappointed any longer. Do some searches on here and see the commentary. Overwhelmingly positive for tuning. Good luck.

I don't understand why he is having problems. My truck has always been strong and quick. I thought it felt stronger than my dad's Titan (not so much anymore, of course, because of the 115,000 miles and bigger tires I have on it).

I don't think it's right that he bought a brand new truck and now has to buy a performance enhancer just to make up for its crappy performance. The truck should perform fine. The programmer is just for improvements, not to get it up to par with stock trucks.

I think something must be wrong with your truck because the 5.4 is a powerful engine without any modifications...

Sorry, man, but you have it wrong. Try driving them. They are WAAAAY heavier than your truck. I agree with your reasoning, that they should perform in such and such a way, but that's not reality. Take it to the dealer by all means if it's under warranty. It won't perform like we like 'em until some tuning is added. Again, search the threads. There are countless entries by guys who think the truck should perform better. The fly-by-wire throttle, transmission shifting patterns, fuel and timing all get optimized. Think about it, Ford makes how many F150's? As a manufacturer, they've gotta meet mileage standards among other things. Software wise, these things are nowhere near optimal. Have to meet safety standards too. Remember when the '97's were just crucified for performing poorly in safety tests? Some of the recommendations then were to sell them because they performed so badly. Safety's a big part of why they weigh so much now. Technically, the truck is par with other stock trucks. Put a tuner on and it will improve it greatly. Money well spent, and almost everyone who's done it agrees. So what's the truck cost? 25 to 35K? Seriously, what's $300?

Get yourself a tuner and start enjoying your truck. Probably won't help mileage that much because these SCREWS weigh in around 5800 lbs. curb weight with a full tank of gas. Driveability will be greatly improved though. Complaining about the gas mileage in these trucks is like marrying a fat woman and whining about the grocery bill. It is a truck after all. I love my truck now that I have the EDGE on it. I have had 2 new body style F150s and they both got the same cruddy mileage but they tow the hell out of my 26 ft. 6500 lb. travel trailer.

I suppose you're right. I do drive one, actually, but you have many valid points. Well said.

While getting an XCAL II is a good idea (& I have one I'll sell to you for $150 + shipping all you have to do is email Troyer & get tunes for your truck) I HIGHLY recommend getting the stock program reflashed at the dealer. It was a night & day difference for my truck. It's also FREE. All you have to do is go to your service department & say the truck has: _________ (insert symptoms here) & you want it reflashed. Should take the dealer no more than 30 minutes.

& I'm dissapointed WITH NJ...

KC-10 FE out...

Lemme just say a couple of things... since the internet is where we can all spout off forever. To Johnboy88 - sorry to you , I think I came off a little harsh. Your sig. shows a 2000 truck. I thought that's what you drive. If you have a newer ( 04+ ) one, you gotta know what we're all whining about with these Secondly, since the truck is an '06, I doubt a reflash will make much difference. It's worthwhile since hopefully it's free, but the complaint is so familiar among so many owners that it's probably running in the correct, stock , boring form.
