Gear ?

Hey guys!

Does it makes a big difference towing a 6 to 7k boat with a 3.73 gear?

I allready ordered my FX4 with 3.55 but wanted to know if it was a mistake.

Congrat's on ordering the new truck, but I would have gone with the 3.73. They pull a little better and if you want to put on taller tires later you'll be glad you did! Not hardly any gains in mileage either. Believe me I've had both of these gear ratios. I pull trailers up to 5k pounds with no sweat. Just my 2 cent's!

I actually order the 3.73 gears and then I changed my mine and changed it back to 3.55 thinking of fuel economy. I call the sales man and he said they can't make any changes.

Is there any way I could contact ford directly to ask for the changes?

Is it too expensive to change the gears?

That's salesman BS, almost untill the truck is being ready to be built you use to be able to make a change. Don't wait till after cause the dealer will want an arm and a leg to change them out. I have the 3.73's in mine and find they are perfect for a large truck. Hope you can do it without any problems.

my response is tje same as in the other thread....

3.73 is a little better but not that big of a deal. You towing long distances or in very hill terrain? IF so, yeah worth trying to change it, if not, no worries...

3.73, take it from someone who had an under-powered/geared truck.

Get it changed BEFORE, after will be expensive.
