Not sure about the speed (different gear ratios, tires, etc), but try to keep your RPM's at or below 2000.

Keep the RPM's below 2000 when accelerating. When you hit 65 MPH, the RPM's will probably be a smidge over 2000, not much you can do about that. Use cruise control whenever possible. If you can draft a semi-truck, it'll save you gas.

I averaged 17.88 MPG last month in my FX4 at an average speed of 76 MPH. That's a big truck and 100% stock. I can't complain.

Another suggestion to aid in you drinking fund conservation is tire pressure. Be sure that they are at proper pressure. Have one for me.

I would check the air pressure in the tires. Cold before you leave. Put them where the manufacturer tells you to have them. I would also change the air filter and keep it at 1,995 rpms weather it is at 72 or 68 mph!!!

I had a 90-mile trip yesterday, and drove 45 mph the whole way - just to see. I got almost 22 mpg over very hilly terrain. I normally get 18.1 or so overall when I drive at posted speed limits of 65-70 mph. But: the fuel saved is not worth the time lost, IMHO.

If you drive slow to save gas for beverage money, it will take you longer to get there...you will have less time for the beverages. If you drive 450 miles at 45 mph to save gas, it will take you 10 hours. If you drive 70 instead, it will take you only 6.5 hrs. You save 7 hours round trip by driving fast! The fuel you save would only be about $20.00 for your extra 7 hrs of drive time. That's not even minimum wage! You can make more money, but you can't make more time.

(Assume 18 mpg vs 22 mpg for 900 miles, at $2.40 per gallon)

Not sure what year your truck is or if that was a typo on your part, but my truck is a 2006 SCREW and I can do right around 73 MPH and be right below 2000 rpm. At 75 I am right at or slightly above 2000 rpm so maybe that's what you meant.

Keeping my rpm's below 2000 (using cruise control) I have been able to get 16- 16.5 mpg's.

No, not a typo. RPM's are over 2000 at 65 MPH and around 2200-2300 at 75 MPH.

My F-150 SCrew is an FX4 with 3.73 gears. At 75 MPH, I get 18 MPG. Guess I must be doing something right!

Must be the difference in the gears. I have the stock 3.55 ones. My rpm's aren't near 2000 at 65 mph.

I bet you're right. My old SCab with 3.55's stays under 2000 RPM until I hit 75 MPH.
