what about fuel economy? screw vs ranger
Well, since I have both I'll throw in some input.

My 05 supercrew with 5.4, 3.55 gears, bigger tires, si/do flowmaster 50, Airaid intake and EDGE tuner gets 17.5-19 on highway doing 65-75. Bump it up to 85 and the mileage goes down to 15-16. I did get 20 mpg on a trip where I never went over 65, with about 20% of the trip at 55 mph. And no A/C. I doubt I will ever see that again as that was a very boring trip.

Went on a 400 mile trip with my 06 Ranger, 3.0 reg cab, 112 wheel base. (It's a little one) and got 20.5 mpg avg. Could have gotten better but on the trip up had 25-35 mph head winds.

Around town with the Supercrew I get about 13-14 with a light foot.

The ranger gets 17-18. Should get a little better once it breaks in, only has 3000 miles on it.

I like the Ranger for driving around town. Easier to park and get around in traffic. Supercrew is long and hard to park sometimes. the wife takes the Ranger all the time for the same reason.

but you can't beat the Screw on the highway just for cruising in comfort.

P.S. Are gas prices going up everywhere? Up $.20 here in just a week.

I've got a '94 Ranger and a 2005 Sport Trac (which is nothing more than a Super Crew Ranger). Both get far better gas mileage than my 5.4L SCrew, and they are much easier to park. On the other hand, the SCrew has twice the interior room and rides quite a bit better. Most of the guys I work with who owned Rangers have since upgraded to SCrews. Even my wife has garaged the Sport Trac in favor of her roomy Expedition.

In mixed driving, my SCrew gets roughly 14 MPG... my Sport Trac gets closer to 18 MPG driving the same routes. On the highway, I get almost 18 MPG in the SCrew and about 23 MPG in the Sport Trac.

Both the 4.0L V6 and 4.6L V8 are really dogs when it comes to get-up-n-go. I definitely would not buy a 4.6L SCrew. That engine has to work pretty hard to move around such a heavy truck.

My 2000, 3.0 Ranger 4x2, gets about 16, mixed driving. Kinda low for a small truck and the ride isn't anything to write home about. Looking forward to all the room I will have once my F150 gets here.

Excellent decision in my opinion. My old boss just upgraded from a 2001 Ranger to a 2007 SCrew. He said he only lost 1 MPG for a truck infinitely more capable.

Coming from a 6'4" guy, I say SCREW it!!!

FWIW: I once had a 2000 F150 XLT 4.6L and a 2001 Explorer Sport 4.0L and most of the time the F150 mileage was a hair better than the Exploder!
