What caused this

I took my 01 s/crew for an oil change today and when I picked it up I noticed that when I started it the mph and rpm gauges ramped all the way up and then back to zero i've never seen it do this before and was just wondering why it done this.

This usually means your battery is getting ready to crap out on you. Replace it and everything will go back to normal.

Did it again

Yesterday the passengers side window messed up so this morning I took it to the glass shop to have it looked at they had the ignition on for about 20 min. When they went to start the truck it acted like the battery was dead. So I got a jump went to advanced to have the batt & alt checked both checked out fine. Then when I started it up to leave the rpm and mph gauges both ramped all the way up and then back down again so if the batt checked good what else could it be.

Bad battery cable connection. Or it still may be the battery. How old is it?

I would replace the battery, if it is not going out, it will soon. I bet that will fix your problem. Change it before you get stranded somewhere.

I have never trusted those battery testers or maybe just the person operating it. Changing your battery will most likely be your fix.

On my 2000 XLT it did the same thing when the battery voltage got too low, like when you turn the key to start it. My guess is the guages are resetting/self checking.
