Turn signals inop, hazard ok...HELP!!!
Hello S-crew Bretheren,
I posted this in the Electrical section as well, but hopefully someone has seen this problem before.
I've searched the forums for some help on this. I've found some good info, but nothing specific to my problem. I'm hoping someone can help me on this before I have to go to the "Dreaded Dealer Service Dept".
My turn signals are completely inop. I can hear a "click" when I push the signal handle up and down, but nothing lights up. I've checked the fuses and relays under the hood and also the fuses in the box by the drivers foot. All hazards work normally. I've cycled the hazard switch multiple times with the turn singal handle up and down just to see if anything would act differently. Turn signals still all inop. All the lamps in the turn signals work when the hazards are operated.
Is there another fuse, relay that the turn signal goes through? I'm hoping it's not the Multi-Function Switch. What else can I check/replace before I attempt to replace that Multi Switch?
When I hear that "clicking" sound as I operate the turn signal handle, where is that coming from?
I've read in some of the other posts about a small cylindrical relay or fuse, is that something I should be looking for? If so, where should I look?
I've got the lower dash removed from the drivers firewall to the radio. If someone could point me in the right direction, I'd sure appreciate it.
Thanks in advance.
DC
PS - I had a similar problem before and tracked it to the wiring harness for the trailer lights, but they're still working. I have my Line of Fire plugged into the receptacle. All the ****ions on it still work.

Usually, there's one relay for the turn signals and another relay for the hazards. A common fail is for the turn signals to stop working, but the hazards continue to work. This is usually caused because the turn signal relay gets quite a work out, but the hazard relay seldom gets used. Normally, the turn signals will start to click on & off really quick or really slow before the relay dies.
The clicking sound your hear is one of the two relays. They are both tied together, but work seperately. Your truck's manual should even have a trouble shooting tree telling you what to do and what the clicks mean.
If you can locate the turn signal and hazard relays, they should be exactly the same. Swap them and see if the turn signals now work and the hazards don't. The relays are normally 1 inch (or so) squares sitting right next to each other by the interior fuse panel or under the drivers side dash (by the floor). Sometimes the relays are round, but square seems to be standard now days.

hmmmm
I had my sigs go out on my 2000 SC. It seems there is a plug near the steering column that was broke. When the wheel was tilted up and down the plastic in the plug failed and caused the no sigs. Was an easy fix for the dealer, once they found it.
I had the same problem as F150canuck, it was the connector in the steering. My signals would work when the steering wheel was in the up position but when I moved it down they would stop working. The dealer fixed it under warranty and said it was a common problem and only took a few minutes to repair.
fixed it!
The relay that controls the turn signals is located under the dash, just to the right of the steering wheel. In my Lariat, it was just in front of the right side pedal adjuster rail. It's in a black box. Tough to see. Two relays in there, the blue one controls the turn signals, the other the hazards.
So if you're turn signals decide to stop working, but the hazards still work and all the bulbs and fuses are good, chances are that relay is bad.
Hope this will help someone out.
