Difference between "FX4" package and "Off-Road" pkg?

I read in a post above that the 2002 FX4 package had 3.55 gears. Was that a standard thing? My 02 Supercrew's axle code says I have 3.73s (it reads B6 on the door tag)

Supercrew's w/ 17" wheels got the 3.73 axle.

Oh, ok. That other info was for the supercabs then, I assume.

That was the text for the FX4 package with a fine print note about the 3.73 for 17" & Supercrew. Keep in mind you could get the FX4 on regular cabs too.

Rear shock conundrum

Trying to choose new shocks for the old girl. 97 f150 4.6 4wd off road package. Is there a factory lift up from the base XLT? Will the shocks be damaged if they are an inch or two higher than required? Ex. Lift kit shocks on a factory off road package truck?
