I am a new owner of a 2004 xlt supercrew with 4.6 liter
red with only 36000 miles, i absolutely love the f150 body style
and i love all the room. I recently took a trip from tennessee to canada
and averaged 19.2 mpg on the way up and that was with a big side by side fridge in the bed. And only 17.2 on way back but had a 30 to 35 mph east wind hittin me in the north with all the flat land. But overall i don't that is bad with a big old truck to boot. I have had a jeep wrangler and a ford ranger both got about the same milage. Overall i am happy with this truck.
I have put a true dual exhaust flowmaster system and a drop in k@n air filter.
i plan to put mods on in the future.

The 4.6L is a great highway engine. I've been able to squeeze 21 MPG from the stock 4.6L in my '97 SCab. That's darn near the same mileage I was getting from my 6 cyl '94 Ranger (hence it got a good dose of "trade").

I traveled from TN to KY for Christmas and averaged 19 miles per gallon on the highway. I have averaged 16 miles per gallon for city driving.
