Thinking of buying a F-150 SuperCrew
Hi All,
My wife and I are thinking of buying an 04-06 SuperCrew. We've test drove one and loved it but are still considering the Titan and the Avalanche. The F-150 is my first pick. So I figured that I would ask the thread what you're thoughts are on the F-150. Are they reliable? What are your major complaints? If you could change anything on the truck what would you change? Looks for opinions on the F-150. Also, please bash away on the Avalanche and Titan, I want to hear why I should or shoudn't get one of those. Thanks!

I love my F-150, you would be hard pressed to get me to trade if for anything else. As for the Titan, the interior is not very functional for me, and I do really like the look of the new Chevy, but up close it's still a GM....
Last weekend i was working on my truck in the driveway and one of the local police officers drove up and started to talk to me about my F-150. He said he had gotten the Titan and hated it, after looking around my truck and talking to me, said he was going to trade in the Titan for the F150, he said the Titan was poorly built by comparison
Go for the 150! You wont be sorry, '06 - '07s looks the best with the newer bumper, '04s have a bad history of some mechanical & cosmetic problems but 2004 the trucks went onto a new generation so that stuff happens. What kind of Supercrew is it? XLT? FX4? Lariat? King Ranch?
Ive had alot of trucks recently last year bought an 06 Titan. Loved the room and blazing fast. But the interior is nto that good and rattled. Ive always wanted an 04 up F-150 so some guy bought my Titan (payoff) and here I am an 05 Screw 4x4 Lariat with 35k miles bought from a dealer and was certified. I have no regrets and plus I lowered my monthly note by $150.
I to am still on the search for a 06 f150...
To help out your decisions, I dont like the looks of the titan, they are very fast for a truck, but ugly.....the avalanche has WAY to much plastic, even the models without it there is still alot of plastic on it, and 3 years down the road the black plastic is grey from the sun...
I would go with a 05 or newwer f150 because the 1st year always has problems...

Thanks for all the replies so far. Keep them coming! Don't hold back, keep the opinions coming!

Don't get an '04 or early-build '05... I have an early '05 and it has all the same problems the '04's do.
Aside from those issues though, the truck is great. You should have no regrets with a late '05 or newer truck.

Those early on 04-05 had some issues which I found annoying, but fortunately all covered by my warranty (Mine is a prod date 10/04).
For example, I needed new brakes, rotors with only 5K on the clock. The cam phaser (RT side) was replaced and I just recently had the 3rd brake light replaced because of water leaking inside the cabin. My OEM Continental's were starting to show premature wear at 7K, but I ended up installing new wheels and a 6" lift. A search on this forum for all these problems are well documented.
However, I personally do not like the looks of the Titan. As for the Avalanche, it would not fit inside my garage.
Despite the annoyances I described, I still would prefer my Screw. The styling, the interior size, the low end torque are great. One feature on mine I really like is the power sliding rear window.
The '04's are coming up on the tail end of their warranty period. I would suggest an '05 or newer. The '06 has either a 5.5' bed or 6' bed. I believe that the warranty has now been extended as well.
Ford is in a world of hurt right now, so you may be able to get an NEW '06-'07 for a song...!

You're input is extremely helpful. I knew the truck changed body style in 04 and I like to avoid first year models, but your input into the different issues is very helpful. Tomorrow we're going to test drive the Avalanche and Titan in order to hopefully widdle it down to one option. The nice thing about living in Iowa is that it is only $65 per year to register a truck no matter year or value. However, Iowa sees the Avalanche as an SUV and the registration on that is in the $400 - $500 range each year ($335-$435 more each year or $28-$36 more each month). Plus I don't really care for the look of the Avalanche which pushes me to not even consider them (however I need to give them all an honest shot I suppose). Thanks again
Iv got a 04 Screw. Love it. There is no cosmetic issues or mechanical issues with it.
The only drawback is the drive by wire hesitation on take off. You can get around this with a tuner but I can do without.
Its a good truck with lots of low end torque.

Hey SX 460, I had always owned several Nissan and Honda vehicles, but in May of this year I purchased my first Ford. A 2002 F150 Supercrew. It is a nice truck but my first choice was the Titan. (too expensive, first titan was released in 04) I test drove the Texas Titan, White with chrome wheels and trim, and that one looked so sweet. I have several friends that own 04, and 05 F150 with cloth interior and they stated the interior stains easily. A good buddy of mine has a Titan and loves the acceleration and the rumble that it has from the factory. He has cloth seats that stain easily too. The Titan LE (leather) is the one I would have chosen. As for the avalanche, the new model looks nice but I do not like the rear window panel that folds down manually. If it is a Chevy product you want check out the 2007 Chevy Silverado.
Nissan Titan had a big issue with the 04 and early 05 Titans. The brakes were too small for that big truck. (ok, first generation truck) This was addressed by nissan.(warranty) Ford has seen their share of problem too with the spark plugs braking off among other things and the engine in my opinion is under powered compared to the Titan. You need to buy a tuner for the ford to keep up with the Titan.
My advise, Test drive each one serveral times and research the forums for Ford, Chevy and Nissan to see their share of issue. by the way, the toyota Tundra is another competitor you may review. New model coming out soon.

I love the brand new look of the Avalanches i'll admit that they look nice, but when it comes to a better/tougher/more popular truck, the F150 drives up in that street

Don't think you can go wrong with the F 150. I'm wearing out my second one. The 06 is the quietest truck that I've ever been in. In the summer I tow around 3000 lb outboard rig and you would never know its behind. My 01 Liariat 4x4 didn't have the limited slip diff. The new FX4 does have the 3:55 axle with Limited slip and its a dream for pulling. In fact I now question if I'll ever need to go to 4 wheel drive with that axle.
Have fun picking out your colors
