The meter tels you how much you have left but it calculates using your current speed and acceleration. So if you speed up it gives you a different reading.

You should also have one that tells you the current consumption.
Put that on and floor it and you will see it change.

On my dad's truck (2001 F-250 SD 4x4 diesel lariat)--same deal. I think part of the problem is that the fuel gauges in Fords are kinda' cooky. Whenn I start driving, they show a little less fuel than when I'm about 10 miles down the road. Then, the gauge drops at a normal and consistant rate.

Sounds about right. When the low fuel lite glowed you still had a few more gallons in the tank and most likely could of made that 100 mile mark before sucking air. Cause if she's still running it's not empty

I think the computer stuck in Kilometer mode

My mountaineer was very similar in how it worked. Its basically just a running average, hills, wind, heavy accelleration and just plain sensory error makes the computer more of a suggestion than a fact! When my low fuel indicator came on, it would automatically say 50 miles till empty, but I could usually get 60-70 and still have a bit in the tank. Just one of those anomoly's

ive gone over 65 miles of city driving after my low fuel light came on.

we had a rented dodge caravan and the light came on and it took us forever to find a gas station, and then sat at a few lights before we finally got there and we put in 22.9 gallons on a 23 gallon tank

By the way seems your caps lock is on

But I've never really messed with that, when it looks like you have just enough to make it, you'll get screwed I just always hit the Quick Fill when I see one.
