Need more backup lighting.

Has anyone installed the White Night Lighting System on your truck?
I'm looking for more lighting when backing up and this looks pretty good.
http://www.whitenight.com/
If so, how difficult was the installation?
Any other suggestions on who also be helpful.
FYI - I did do a "search" and found some interesting ideas but unfortunately
I'm not all that great at the "wiring thing".
Just wondering if there is something out there that's not all that complicated
to install. :o)

Thanks

Archer

Archer,

Not sure what you're using it for, but one of my buddies put the white night lights on his ford and one trip to the boat launch and it was toast. Ended up returning it. (that was salt H2O though. maybe does better in fresh?)

Why was his rear end under water???

At that point his exhaust is under water too.

I bought the set on my 250 from Autozone. You can see them in the pic below (look just under the bumper). They work great. I wired them to come on every time back up lights are on. The were mounted to the receiver mounting bracket.

exuast can be underwater all day long if the motor is running. The motor will just keep a steady push of exaust gasses coming out, and there will be no chance for water to get in the pipe, even if it gets in a lil, it wont make it all the way to the muffler even b,c the pipes go over the axle.
Its you intake you have to worry about being submerged.
He said on the boat ramp so his truck would be at a steep incline. And the cab and nose will be out of the water....

I got one of the White Night Lighting System kits some time ago for my '01. Put it on, and then tried to install a reciever. Worked like crap. You might need a longer reciever to work with this setup, and to be honest, it puts out crap amount of light. Don't bother.

Go with a standard set of clear fog lamps, or I used Truck Lite LED backup lamps on my '01, and a set of Maxium backup LED lamps on my '06. The Truck lite units are much better, but cost about 4 times as much.

Here are some shots of the Truck Lites on my '01 :

you could always just mount some pro comp, PIAA, or hella 6" lights on the top of ur bed, right behind the cab...that way they will never be underwater and still give you plenty of light

I'd hate to see that frame after he's done with it.

Barnegat bay duck floats. Depending upon the tide and the currents (along with the pitch of the ramp) sometimes you've got to get your hitch in the water. (Mostly waves and wake rather than a submersion). But either way, it's salt water on the hitch. You just hose 'em down when you get home.

Either way...It smoked those white night things. (But I can't offer a better alternative becuase he ended up going with overheads).

Its hard as hell, I gotta put my door windows down & use the mirrors if i'm backing out a parking space or some area i'm unfamiliar with but sometimes I also open my door & have it closed to the point the bed lights are on, kinda helps, I wanna upgrade my reverse lightv bulbs and bed lightbulbs soon.

Wow,

Thanks for all the replies !!!
Looks like I have some work ahead of me.
Like I said before, I'm not that great at the "wiring" stuff.
But I'm not afraid to try.

Thanks again

Archer

If you don't want / or feel comfortable with getting fancy with relays and switches, you can always just wire them direct the the factory 7 pin tow adapter. This is a seperate circuit that would take the load, it is not directly part fo the reversng circuit in the trans, so no worries about destroying that switch.

Would not be bad at all, ground and reverse power are both right at the 7 pin, as long as you have the factory tow package installed.

Good luck, let us know if you come up with any questions in the install.

That's what I did after I converted my travel trailer backup lights into brake lights.
I used the backup circuit from the 7-pin harness for aux backup lights on the truck.
