01 supercrew

Just bought an '01 supercrew. lariat, 5.4l 4WD, 60k miles. I have had a few fords in my time, but this is the nicest one yet.
However, the truck didnt come with a manual.
How do I set up a code for the touchpad entry gimmick?
As it is now I can press one button and the doors unlock. That didnt seem right to me.
Thanks!

That's really weird! It was explained to me by the dealer and by the locksmith that each vehicle is given a 5 digit "factory" code that cannot be changed. Once you know this code, then you can add a second code that has some meaning to you so you can remember it.

Here are the instructions for adding the second "personal" code. Try doing this using just the 1 button that currently works for you.
Programming your own personal entry code
To program your own code:
1. Enter factory set code (keypad will illuminate when pressed).
2. Press 1/2 control within five
seconds of step 1.
3. Enter your personal 5 digit code.
Enter each digit within five seconds
of previous one. Do not set a code that includes five
of the same number or presents them in sequential order. Thieves
can easily figure out these types of codes.

Your personal code does not replace the permanent code that the
dealership gave you. You can use either code to unlock your vehicle. If a
second personal code is entered, the module will erase it in favor of the
new code.

If you wish to erase your personal code, use the following instructions:
Erasing personal code
1. Enter factory set code.
2. Press 1/2 control within five
seconds of step one.
3. Press 7/8 control and 9/0 control
at the same time within five seconds
of step 2.
The system will now only respond
to the factory set code.
Also, if you go to https://myford.fordvehicles.com/ you can register with Ford so you can be informed of any recalls - a good idea since you're probably not the owner that Ford has on record. Once you register you can access the Owner's manual for your vehicle. You'll need your VIN# to register.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the information. Yeah I dont know what the deal is. But if anyone comes to my truck and happens to press that one button, it will unlock the doors.

That stinks - cause even if you create a personal code, the factory code continues to work.

Gatta1quest9, I think u should be able to go into your local ford comp. and request a default code 4 your truck, I 2 just bought a used truck without owners manual I scored one at junkyard at no cost! Good luck

I also thought it was odd that the Factory Code continued to work once you enter a new code. After I added my own code I threw the card with the factory code on it in the back of my desk drawer, and have since forgotten it.

As for only having to press one button to unlock the doors, I would get that fixed ASAP, who knows how many people walk by your car and randomly push the keypad buttons when you're in a parking lot. Maybe there is a way to pull a fuse or something and disable it until you figure out how to fix it.

The factory default code is on a sticker on the computer. Look under your dash, to the left side of the column, high up.

Try that number and see if it works.

To me it sounds like the "1-button" method was somoene else's personal code.

Maybe call Ford support and give them you VIN and they might be able to send you your factory code, and you can probably buy a manual set off of ebay.

That is exactly right. Look at your top of your emergency brake foot lever and look up way back there. You will see it. It is a white sticker on a black box.

Go to the following web site and plug in your information. The Owners Manual is in PDF format and can be downloaded immediately

https://www.fleet.ford.com/maintenan...ls/results.asp

The Ford Fleet site (US) provides owners manuals for all vehicles including maintenance schedules if required.

Good Luck
