Okay looking at buying a locals 2001 SC F150 4x4. Its loaded with everything, but leather and it has the 5.4L. It also just hit 80k miles and is modified (6" lift, 35s, brush guard, lights, CAI, etc).

Anyways can you guys give me some idea on what to look for when checking this truck out? I know Ford doesn't make a decent auto tranny so thats my main concern right off the bat being this has 80k and 35s with stock gearing. He does however include a set of 4.56s. Also I would think adding a big tranny cooler would be a great idea?

 

These are great trucks. I'm not aware of any serious problems. Has the guy taken care of the truck? I'd rather have an 01 with 80k on it that has been taken care of than an 03 with 30k miles that has been beat to death.

 

Yes it has as far as I can tell (only seen pics) he seems to almost not want to sell it, lol.

Anyways he'll take $14.5k so is that okay deal? Its got every option, but leather. It on a 6" fabtech lift, which I hear is pretty good. 35" MT/Rs and some real nice chrome 16" MT wheels. Has a Warn brush guard and lights, etc. Also comes with 4.56s. Its black with tan.

 

Listen i have an 01' Lariat 4x4 with the 3v V8 5.4 and i love the truck good power. I have 100k miles on it and been used offroad maybe 3 or 4 times. but truck runs great. I have babied it and the only thing that went wrong with it was around 80k miles (funny huh) ne ways i had the coils go bad $$$ 1400 replacement but when i got them back truck still was skipping and jolting but finnally found out tranny was going bad. had rebuilt trans in and truck is still going strong. power is good b/c I can gas it up to 3 rpms and have great accleration but when i get it to 4 it vibrates really bad. i dont know what this is but not in my worrys cause i have no need to punch the gas like that. Great truck though test drive it and i am sure you will like it. i want to put the 6" fabtech on myself. if you buy it tell me how you like it. Anyways i'd say it would be worth the 14.5K$

Yeah I think its a decent deal. Its comes with all kinds of extras, dual CAI, programer and a superchip....which I will be tuning it back to stock and sell the chip/programer.

You might want to know that the 3v 5.4 V-8 didn't come out until the 2004 model year. Your 5.4 is a 2 valve V-8 with 260 HP. The 3v 5.4 puts out 300 HP. Just thought you might want to know.

The 2001 model year was great if you get a gen II or III. The generation I had the typical problems of a 1st year vehicle. Let us know what you decide to do.
