Oil change

Alright, this has probably been asked many times before, but I can't seem to find many posts on this. How often should I change my oil? I've got almost 90,000 miles on my 03 Screw. I don't do any pulling or off-roading. I've been changing it every 4,000 miles. I also use Valvoline 10w30. Any suggestions on something other than 10w30?

If the oil is working well, and you are not using oil, why not stay with that same program? unless you are in a very dusty climate, the 4000 miles is a good number as far as I am concerned. Unless I was forced to change, I would not change from any oil I had been using if I was getting good results.

sound like you are doing everything just right. Ain't broke don't fix it. I go longer on mine but I use full synthetic.......whole different discussion. The val 10-30 is a very good oil. I would keep it the way you got it.

i think the 5.4 and 4.6 call for 5w20, just wondering why you use 10w30.. it may depend on where you live i use mobil 0w20 or 5w20 i do get about a mpg better running this over 5w30 in my test at least...

Ford recommend 5W20 in the owners manual and even on the oil fill cap. Otherwise, no need to change to synthetic or blend if you don't want to.

Well, I live in a pretty hot environment here in Texas, and I really don't know a whole lot about oil and the different kinds. I guess I should learn. I know I always used 10w40 in my old Toyota truck when I was young to keep it from pinging. Maybe I'll go with what the manual says. I just got stuck in a rut with doing what I've always done. What is the actual difference in putting in what Ford says and 10w30?

Don't forget Ford also recommends a synthetic blend 5-20w oil. But Austin, Like said above don't break it if it's working.

I don't think Ford recommends a 5W20 blend. From the owner's manual:

"Use SAE 5W-20 engine oil.
Only use oils “Certified For Gasoline Engines” by the American
Petroleum Institute (API). To protect your engine’s warranty use
Motorcraft SAE 5W-20 or an equivalent 5W-20 oil meeting Ford
specification WSS-M2C153–H. SAE 5W-20 oil provides optimum fuel
economy and durability performance meeting all requirements for
your vehicle’s engine.
Do not use supplemental engine oil additives, cleaners or other engine
treatments. They are unnecessary and could lead to engine damage that
is not covered by Ford warranty."

The 5-20 Motorcraft is a blend.

Yep, thats good. I run mobile one in mine and change it every 3k with a K/N oil filter. My father inlaw keeps saying he's going to use my old oil because I change it so much.
