new member, question

Hey guys,
I've been browsing the forums for quite some time now, and thought I would register and hopefully get some helpful hints. I'm 16, and am in the market for a Supercrew. I think the '01-'03's look much nicer than the '04+, (and would rather own one of those), but if the newer models are "better" trucks, I'd be open to purchasing one of them. In your opinion, which of the 2 models is a better truck? Which would you rather own? What are some cons of the '01-'03s, and what are some cons of the '04+? (Besides gas mileage, of course.) Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Well, I for one don't own a SCREW but I own a SCAB '99 w 5.4L. If you ask me the biggest difference is your personal taste. The newer trucks, IMO look a little tougher on the outside and a little more car-like on the inside. The older trucks have a more truck like interior and don't look quite as edgy on the outside. Now don't get me wrong, I like them both a lot but they just look different from each other.

The only other difference that I can think of is that the new truck has the three valve engine. I know there are more design and mechanical differences, but I'm not sure they are all that substantial.

I for one am very happy with my older truck.

That's my $.02

I've had a 01 Supercrew KR and now have a 05 Supercrew KR. The differences that I see are. Oh, yeah the 01 was a 4.6 and of course the 05 is a 5.4.
1] Fuel mileage 1-2 mpg better on the 01
2] Visibility was better on the 01
3] Backing the 01 was easier to see where the rear of the truck was.
4] The 01 had much more interior storage. Behind the rear seat for example.
5] Headlamps are better on 05.
6] 05 has a lock on the tailgate.
7] 05 rides better, tighter and more percise.
8] 05 has better radio
9] 05 has radio controls on steering wheel
10] 05 has larger wheels
11] 05 will allow the fog lights to go on with the automatic function 01 didn't
12] 05 has power pedals
13] 05 is throttle by wire

Hope that helps some. I'm sure there are more, but in closing the 05 drives/rides much better then the 01. Not that the 01 is bad, just not as good. If you drive both you'll see the difference.

New model way better. I've had an 02 and now own a 05 and love it.
In the market for a new truck.
Where are these kids today getting all this money???
When I was 16 I had to drive a 79 Ford Fairmont (piece of crap). Three colors of green. didn't like to be cold and to use the turn signal I had to play with the ignition but it only cost me 400. working at Burgerking that was a lot.

I had a 02 screw lariat fx4 and then the 04 lariat 4x4. IMO the 04 is way ahead of the previous generation in almost every way.

Go test drive a few used 01-03 models then drive a new one. I am sure you will go with a 04 or up.

sounds like the newer model is a step up from the original. but, its my first vehicle, and i dont really need the newest truck out there. and, to me, the original body style is much more appealing than the current. ill have to test drive both to see this "better difference" in the new model.
