Today, I got my *** handed to my by some guy in a Hemi Ram. He had me by 2 lengths by the end of first gear. I know he had an exhaust, but I don't know if there were other mods. I have a SC Tow'n'Go(5.4, 3.73's). I thought my 150 went ok for a big truck, but the Dodge really surprised me. Your experiences/opinions please.

 

Spend a few bucks...OK more than that, and hand him HIS ***!!

 

If it makes you feel any better, you can take comfort in knowing that his powertrain will probably outlast the rest of the truck...and your F150 will outlast both.

calm down....I have the 5.7 hemi and a six speed behind it, yes stock vs stock it is faster than the 5.4, so why worry about it? My last 04 F-150 had the 5.43v and I'm not saying it was gutless, the truck made the majority of it's power lower in the Rpm band which was ok, but for merging or passing on the high way, the hemi is more stout...

If you want a high revving, get their quick truck, get the hemi, they have to rev higher to make the power, and they have a hell of a lot more gear ratios to chose from than Ford...If you want to tow, the F-150 has a higher tow ratting in a 1/2 ton truck ... as for drive train hear say, who the hell really cares, you just want your truck to last, Hemi guy's tend to abuse their rigs and the Ford guy's feel inferior and have to mod to compete, or just because they want to

as for Ford, you can't get a v/8 in a 1/2 ton with a stick, dodge has the 4.7 with a stick but if you want the 5.7 with a stick, you have to go 3/4 ton...all automatics suck period, dodge still has a terrible reputation with their automatics....

If aint broke and not as fast, it's okay., life is a mighty long highway...

 

I honestly am not shocked the Hemi won, Hemis can definatly take a F150, and a SRT-10 Ram can take the Lightning, a '04 or '05 Dodge Ram all blacked with a Hemi is the only thing i'll trade my truck for, my friend Shaun has a 2006 Dodge Quad Cab 5.7L Hemi 4x4, him & i raced and he beat me by like 5 lengths, i got a '01 5.4L 16v 270 horse Triton & i had it floored the whole race, I'm not doubting Fords, but i'm just saying Dodge really knows what their doing under the hood

 

i ran neck and neck with a hemi 2500 work truck 4x4 (4dr). By 90 he pulled his back up to the front bumper on me, idk if you call that a length, but it was a damn good run, for my stock 4.6
Ive run a hemi 2dr and that thing walked for ever on me, if i had him from a dig, it would have been a different story. I can launch my truck at around 3500rpm.

5.4 vs 5.7 i guess .3 cubes will do that...lol
1 reason i want to up grade,SC,E-fans etc ..never like losing to a Dudgeor a cheby for that matter

 

330 cubic in 5.4 345 cubic in 5.7 the hemi has 15 cubes more displacement, or .3 lt more..if you want to get techinacal ( 330 is relly only 329...ect thats ok )

 

i wouldn't worry about it the F-150 IMO is'nt built to race.. even though i like a good race myself and have pulled up on a couple of chevys with my 79 Bronco with 351c. the ram 1500 with hemi is rated at a 345hp Ford 5.4 something like 300hp. now i think if Ford would have come out with the new '05 lightning like they planned it would have competed with the ram srt... that would have been a good match up....

 

I really doubt your statement that an SRT can take a Lightning. I have seen just the opposite at the local drag strips. My Lightning actually bested a Viper several times at one of the tracks. Of course he was stock and I did have a few Troyer mods.
Most stock Hemis I see run anywhere from 15.4 to 15.8 or so stock.

 

hmm well possibly, I never seen that happen but i also have dialup so i canbt watch the cool videos like streetfires vids. I know Lightning must weigh a whole lot lighter than a SRT-10, even a single cab SRT-10

 

there ya go I have never lost to a Chevy, not once, newest Chevy i've raced was a '05 with the 5.3L single cab

the stock air filter and air box on the 5.7 is huge in comparison to the 5.4 3v, the Filter is at least 25% larger and as I stated befor, the F-150 is built like a tank...so f your worried abought the hemi being quicker, rest asured, it is, if your losing sleep over it, than your crazy...
