Need Better Acceleration

I expect to buy an 06 Lariat Supercrew in the next week or two. Having road tested a few already, I find myself wanting a little better power/torque.

What would be the first things you F150 afficianados suggest for performance mods?

My personal recommendation is a Troyer Performance custom tuned XCal2. I’ve been running Mikes custom tune for 14 months, without a single problem

Call Troyer Performance when you order because all F150online members get a discount; all they do is verify your F150online screen name

Mike’s custom tuning made my truck fun to drive; more responsive, better fuel economy, etc, etc, etc

I was just scoping out the Troyer website and the Stage 1 or Stage 2 setup looks exactly like what I want. Now all I have to do is give them a call and see if they do installations. I hate messing with this stuff myself. I just wanna drive...

If you want to be able to get up and go, the biggest and best mod under $1,000 (Or $5,000 for that matter) is to regear the truck. I went with 4.1s and it is a LOT better, but if you really want to take off try the 4.56s.

It should run between $600-850 for a 2wd, and about $1,400 for a 4wd.

Then go for the intake, exhaust, and Xcal2 from Troyer and you will be set. that's what I did and my truck is a LOT quicker than stock.

Higher gear ratio(4.56:1 vs 3.55:1) let the engine breathe better and get into higher rpms faster, and lets the engine work less to get the same weight moving up to desired speed.

Best way to see the difference is get into a vehicle with a stick shift, put it in 3rd or 4th and try to take off vs putting the stick in 1st.

Troyer Stage 1 kit is great for performance gains. The custom cals will improve sihfting, spark advance, and take advantage of more energy in premium octane fuel. If you have a 2wd truck, a shorter rear axle ratio will be cheaper. It helps acceleration by changing the number of times the engine spins compared to the tires Just as 3rd gear accelerates quicker than 4th gear, so will a shorter axle ratio (numerically higher).

It's all about Torque multiplication; if the motor gets to turn 14.25 times in order to only turn the wheels once, the amount of torque the motor is applying to the wheels gets multiplied that many times
