cruise control problem

I have a 2001 supercrew and i was driving down the road and the cruise control disengaged, then i reset it and about 2 mins later it did the same thing. Now some times it engages and goes out shortly after. When i try to set again the cruise light will only blink when i hit the set button. Can someone please help me.

Not to be a chicken little. But if you've not taken care of the recall, you might want to disconnect that.

I have a 01 Screw as well - and several of the articles I read about the fires said that if your cruise starts to fail it "could" be a sign of brake fluid getting into to where it does not belong.

Your problem may very well be something else entirely, but it's a simple procedure that could save you a lot.

Recommend going back to the dealership that did the recall work and let them fix it for no out of pocket expense on your part - assuming that your stated problem was not present prior to having the recall work done. Something must not have been done correctly for this to be happening after a service call.

Please post your results.

If you want to run the Cruise Control self test prior to going it, it might tell you something, unless it is a intermitten secondary safety switch problem ( which is almost sound slike to me ), i.e. the plunger in the new switch thinks the brake was put on, and shuts off the cruise control. Did you happen to make note of, if you hit a dump like a frost heave in the road when the cruise went off ?

Cruise Control Selft Test procedure

With the key off depress and hold the cruise control off button while turning the ignition to the run position, dont start the truck, the cruise light will flash once to let you know it is in selftest.
Five additional flashes indacate a bad cruise control servo

Release the cruise off switch and within 5 seconds depress the other switches in sequence:
1. on
2. resume
3. coast
4. set/ accel
The speed control light will flash as each switch is depressed.

If the last one does not flash it may then flash a code

After this the cruise will move the throttle to test the actuator and the cable.
Make sure the trottle returns to idle and turn the key off.
