Need help with unkonwn noise

I have a 2002 SuperCrew FX4. It is making a rythmic noise at all speed that sounds like "whomp, whomp, whomp" Since hearing the noise, I have new tires, turned rotors and new front ones, new shocks, new ceramic pad all the way around, readjusted the emergency brake tension, and had tires balanced and alignment checked?

Any ideas what this might be? I also have a grinding noise every so often. I thought this was a warped rotor or warn pads, but they are new and show no wear. Once rotors were completed, noise continued.

Please help...........

in a past truck i owned, i think it was an 01, i had a noise that was hard to find and sounds similar to yours. turned out to be the rubber shroud by the radiator that directs the air. hope this helps. it had come loose.

Does it change with speed? Could be U-joints? I think that I have the same problem. My pinion seal is leaking so I will have both U joints replaced when the leak gets fixed.

It changes with speed in that if I slow down, the rythm of the noise gets slower, if I speed up, it gets faster.

Have you priced U joints and cost of install? If so, what have you been told?

cause of unknown noise

The noise that you describe is th exact noise that I had on my 02. I replaced brakes, tires ect ect nothing worked. Then a good mech told me that it was the front bearing assembly. I replaced them and the noise was gone. When I removed them it was obvious that they were shot. This is an expensive part, around 250 to 300 dollars each. They are a sealed unit and can not be rebuilt. The only up side is that they are easy to replace. Hope this helps.

I had a grind as I was slowing down pushing my brakes, only heard it once, couple weeks ago haven't heard it since but I didn't like the way it sounded, was probably a little wet on the pads.

I am not sure. I will try that on my way home tonight.

I have noticed that I have excessive brake dust on the left front wheel, which is where the noise seems to be coming from.

Anyway to know for sure if it is the front bearing assembly?

Jack it up, and try to pull the wheel in and out, not the typical ball joint check of side to side, up and down with the pry bar.

I would take a guess, that is the bearings are shot, there would be some in and out play. Just a SWAG...anyone got a better way to test ???

My front wheel bearings and rotors were replaced last year and noise is still there. I suspect U-joints in my case.

I have not priced them yet but they are ususally pretty cheap.

OK, no difference in the sound upon load from side to side while driving. I will check the ball joints and will probably go ahead and change u joints. Found them for about $15.

If anyone has any other ideas, please let me know.

I noticed this morning that it seems like the noise quitens when the truck is under heavy throttle. The grinding feel also seems to minimize under heavy throttle. Does this help any?
