Stock Shocks S-Crew? Replacements?

I have an 02 Screw ready for 4 new shocks......I've got some questions:

1.) What kind of shocks came with my stock 02 Screw 4X4? Rancho; Motorcraft; etc?

2.) What would be a very good replacement for the 4? I do NO off roading and only highway & street driving.....

3.) I would buy the shocks and have a mechanic install them.... What can I look at paying for just installation of the 4 shocks?

Thanks for the help

tj

You also might want to check the "Suspension" section under the Powertrain forum for additional info as well as doing a search.

Motorcraft shocks came on your truck. Even if you have the FX4 package, Ford gave Rancho the design specs which are inferior to the aftermarket Rancho shocks.

Edlebrock IAS or Rancho RSX9000x are the top picks. Rancho should have a buy 3 get one free sale coming too, as they do every spring.

It should take a shop an hour to hour & half to install. So, <$100.

Sears usually has good sells on shocks with free installation. I went with the Monroe Reflex shocks and love them. No matter what shock you go with, it will feel and handle better than the stock shocks.

it isnt that hard to change out the shocks, the hardest part is threading an inch worth of thread a nut on the top of the shock to compress it. Rear is even easier then the front.

Only "special tools" needed would be 13/16's deep
And preferably a 13/16's ratcheting wrench

If you havent already paid someone to put em on, and you think you want to try it, shoot me a pm, or email and i would be more then happy to talk you through it more in depth, and save yourself 100-150 in labor

Dont forget to get your truck aligned after the new shocks go in.

Edlebrock IAS on my 03 Supercrew. Great shocks but not cheap but I guess you get what you pay for.

Why? Shocks don't affect any suspension settings.

They do if your old ones sag, or the new ones are stiffer. Especially if you change out the rear, they have an affect on your caster angle.

If you really dont believe what im saying i could show you this pictue out of my suspension and steering classroom manual from school last year

Please do! Installing new shocks does absolutely nothing on your suspension settings (unless you are doing something stupid like running air shocks, but that is another discussion altogether). Shocks do not cause your suspension to sag, nor will they lift it.

With normal street driving, how long do the stock shocks last? I have the 02 screw 4x4 Lariot with 72k on it. Shocks seem shot. Do I need em?

While that is a true statement, shocks (and struts) do not set the ride height. Springs and torsion bars do. Changing shocks does not change the ride height (except those air suspension setups). Shocks damper the springs as they compress/expand.

Depending on how you drive-on or off road, stock Ford shocks pretty much suck. If you get 30,000 miles out of your shocks, you are very lucky.
