My gearshift indicator on the dash of my 2001 Screw is off. example park is now in the R position. Everything has shifted to the right . It wasa sudden change. Any ideas?

I have had this happen twice with Ford products. I removed the shroud around the steering column, where the emergency flasher is and found the needle for the shift indicator is part of a piece that attaches to the shifter. Both times I repositioned it and put it back togeather with no future problems.
Time about 20 minutes. Standard tools.
