Heavy clunk, rattle under dash, hood...

I hear a heavy rattle or clunking over small potholes & bumps. Low speeds over speed bumps straight ahead does not repeat it often. It seems to mostly be at 10- 35 mph in a left turn a little sharper than a lane change. Broken pavement torn up by big trucks seems to induce it into a rattle easiest. I have checked the exhaust & my step bars & cannot get them to move. It does not seem to transfer thru the steering wheel, I feel it more w/ my feet.
Anyone want to ride under my truck while I drive over bumps?
Any ideas on my 120K 2wd SC that may be the culprit as I am still a Ford rookie?
Thank you

My '01 had that problem...

It ended up being the fuse box under the hood driver's side. The clips were a little loose. I just put a chunk of rubber under it.

It stopped....

Good luck

It sometimes does it on start up.
BTW, I have crawled around underneath a few times and pushed, pulled, & wiggled stuff, but nothing obvious. I'll check more.
thanks

how bout

ball joints? 120k sounds about right if you havent done them yet. im sure someone else can help you on how to check them. but i think it requires jacking up on the suspesion in front and have the whell just off the ground. and then see how much you can push the top of the wheel twords the inside of the vechicle and if there is too much play then need to get them replaced. well its something like that but yea Good Luck!

I think I found it.
The steering shaft has some play where the inner & outer shaft join about halfway from the firewall to the box. There is a rubber boot covering the slip joint. I know I have checked it before, maybe I had the wheels turned just right today.
It will flex 1/4 to 1/2 inches side to side. The u-joint at the box is tight.
Is this a problem w/ Fords or is this okay as far as safety concerns? I do not want it to come unputtogether while running 80 down the interstate.
Thank you

It shouldn't scatter on you but will eventually , if not now, cause excessive drift. Be safe and replace it, I would hate to lose steering under extreme circumstances.

It drives & tracks fine. I will do a few more searches for a replacement, I guess, unless there is a easy fix (cheap).
Thanks
