2006 Super Crew FX4 dissappointments
I am looking to purchase a 2006 Screw FX4 and letting go of my 2003 Screw 4x4. The 2006 ride, handling, noise reduction, and lack of body sway when cornering were great. I was dissappointed in the back seating area. On the 2006 the back seat width from back rest to edge of seat is only 17 inches compared to 19 inches on my 2003. The seat cushion foam and backrest foam is also a bit thicker on the 2003. There is no storage compartments behind the rear seat as there are 2 on the 2003 that can hold a lot of small stuff and tools. There is no under seat storage under the back seat, they put the jack (which is in the storage compartment in the 2003) and a sub woofer under the back seat in the 2006. I'm not trying to be overly picky here but Ford really "cheapened" up the back seating/storage areas for a $40,000 vehicle. I am mainly wanting to upgrade to the 2006 for the additonal towing capacity, need the full four doors, and 4x4. Any comments from those that have the '04 - '06 Screw on how they like or dislike the back seat area or how their passengers liked or disliked the comfort or lack of would be great.

I owned a 2001.5 XLT 4X4 Supercrew and recently purchased a 2006 XLT 4X4 Supercrew. I have to agree with you on the back seat.
I was dissapointed that the back seat no longer folds flat. It was a great place for my dog to sit. Now I have to build a platform for him to stand/sleep on and store that too. Personally, I am fairly long in the torso and I found the back seat on my first generation Supercrew to be a little more comfortable and less upright. Ford has never been known for great seats (I think GM truck front seats are much better). I once had a spring shoot through the seat bottom of my first generation Supercrew and cut the back of my leg from my knee to upper thigh when I was getting out.
I bought a small 12.5" deep tool box storage unit by Deflecta Shield that another member recomended on this site that's sold by Cabela's (btw-Thanks!). It resolved the storage issue. It takes my tow-staps, jumper cables, Open House signs, etc. and just moves them into the back. (tuffyproducts.com makes an even smaller one that sits inside the bed and is really neat for holding underseat sized items)
Mechanically, there is so much improvement over my first generation Supercrew that its just not worth going into. I finally figured, if I really wanted a proper back seat, I should buy an Expedition like the local housewives.

I had a 02 Lariat Screw Fx4. Now a 05 FX4 Screw. I couldn't agree with you more on the seat. That was my first and my biggest complaint about the new body style compared to the old.
I had a couple buddys ride back there on a 4 hour trip. They complained quite a bit due to what seemed like the top of the backrest was pushing their upper back / shoulder area forward. Almost putting them in a slouching position. I agree with them after trying it out myself. My 02 was just as comfortable in the back seat as it was in the front. Much better angle, with storage. I just don't understand why they made that change.
I have since put leather in my 05, seems to be a little better.
The superdutys have much bigger / better seats in the crewcabs, might be my next truck.
Dodges don't have the leg room, and chevys back rest only comes up to the bottom of your shoulder blades, then they have a headrest that goes up to the ceiling. Seems no one can get the back seat right.
