2005 F150---"engine shutting off" without warning

Ok all....My 2K5 F150 with 1300miles on it...had it since the end of Oct.
Absolutely love it except for one thing.........

About 2 weeks ago, after loading up a washing machine, I start the truck...get about 30 feet and then its like everything shut off....
It was the strangest thing. When I say "everything shut off" I mean the engine really....and power steering.

It happened again yesterday after the christmas party....Got in...started it up.....sat for about 10 seconds or so waiting to get to pull out straight from drive....(no reverse first)...got 30 feet down the road.....and I 'm giving gas and nothing happens....then I look down and the RPM's are nothing....then I pull over and notice the steering is hard (power steering off)
So....I restart and then fine since.....

Anyone have any ideas????

Other than "Take it to the dealer and let them have a look" That's a no brainer

Will any "codes" be stored in the PCM?

Thanks Guys,
Jeff

Same thing with me....

Hey,
The same happened to me a few times. Brought it to the dealer. They said there was a software update that needed to be done. THey did it for free and it has not happened since.

see your dealer for the recall.

Jeff,
My 2004 F-140 with less than 3,000 miles did the same thing. A couple of times it would restart and appear to be ok. Then one day it just died on me while I was driving. I pulled over, called Ford 24hr Service number and got towed to the dealer. Dealer fixed it one day, problem has never come back.

Chances are the PCM won't have a code to down load in this case.

I recently worked on a Dodge truck with the same problem. Turned out to be a faulty fuel pump fuse. It was broken (not blown), and would make good contact until the truck hit a bump. The engine would die immediately, but restart no problem. You might want to look at the fuses and relays for one that is loose in its socket. On a truck as new as yours, it could be a faulty crimp on a connection... somewhere.

Maybe it's a software problem. Might have to take it to the dealer.

There may be a calibration update for this. I'd check with your dealer.
