Newbie Here - Planning to buy 06 SCrew - any tips?
Hello,
I new to the boards here, and am in the process of perusing the various threads. Today I rented an 06 F150 XLT SCrew from Enterprise for four days just to see how I would like it. You just can't drive the trucks enough at the dealer to know. I have test driven the 06 F150 Lariat SCrew, and the 06 Lincoln Mark LT this past week, but decided to rent one for a few days before buying.
I'm interested in buying a new 06 F150 Lariat (either 4x2 or 4x4, I haven't decided yet) with all the bells and whistles, including Power Moonroof, Power rear slider, and Audiophile, along with black leather, and the soon to be released 6.5' bed model, and the new 06 Chrome package and 20" wheels. Does anyone know if the 22" Harley Davidson wheels can be packaged with on the 4x2 or 4x4? And it says in the brochure that to see the dealer for the restrictions on the 20" wheels. Anyone know anything about that? On the rental truck I have now for the next three more days, the sound system is the standard single CD system. It has very strong bass, and sounds pretty good. Can the aftermarket sound systems sound better than the factory Audiophile option? Does audiophile sound that much better than what I'm hearing now from the rental F150? This rental F150 has only 146 miles on it total, 4x4, 5.4L, cloth seats, and 5.5' bed, of course. I've put 50 more miles on it today just driving around my area here in NW Oregon. Any suggestions about buying my first ever new mid-life crisis truck would be appreciated.
Are the factory accessories for the F150 better than aftermarket?
Thanks,
Scott

I'm on my 2nd SCrew and love it, you have made a wise choice
, only suggestions is get either a spay in liner or bed carpet, (I prefer a the Rhino liner spry in as water can't get trapped below)
tonneau cover if you are hauling anything and need it covered. (added bonus is folks stop asking you to move them with a hard cover
)
Regarding the Radio, i purchesed the stock 6 cd MP3 radio and shouldn't have, I use an IPOD and you can't get an adaptor for that radio to intigrade your IPOD through a hard wire, i ended up purchaseing a new Alpine receiver and IPOD Adaptor from Circuit City. My stock radio sounded fine but the Alpine blows it away. change out the rear stock speakers and it sounds even better. (Problem with this setup is that the Stering wheel radio controlls are rendered useless) if you stick with the basic AM/FM/CD stock radio, i belive you can get an IPOD adaptor.
I belive the 20" rim restricton you are refering to means that those rims only come with particular trim packages, i.e. larriet 4x4 etc... Fords website has those details. regarding the 22" rims, when i purchased my 05, i wanted polished rims, the only available were on the Harley, Ford told me i would have to purchase them with Tires etc and have them installed, they would not let me swap them out...
just my .02
take care...

You can only get the 22's on a Harley truck!
If you go for the Chrome package it comes with 18's only chromed along with the other chromed goodies!
If you want the 20's Im guessing you can still get the chrome package and swap for the 20's--dont know but the 20's will not be chromed.

Regarding the Audiophile: This was the only option that my truck didn't have, and I am currently in the middle of building one up on my own. The sound quality from this factory system is amazing. Yes you can make an aftermarket system sound better, but not with such a factory look, and especially not for the Ford option cost.
I will try to touch what some of the others havn't. If you haven't decided on what motor you want yet, you definatly want the 5.4, IMHO I think that the 4.6 just doesn't do it for these trucks. Now for the 4x4 or 4x2 issue, well that all depends if you will be doing any offroading, or if you get a bunch of snow and will be needing the 4x4. Personally, I would get the 4x4, at least you will always have it. Oh yea, make sure you get the towing package too, you never know when you may need it, and it only helps. Good luck.
Make sure you order your '06 screw with the new 6.5ft box option. The 5.5 box is useless. I have an '04 screw 4x4 and have just ordered a new '06 Lariet screw 4x4 just so I can have the extra foot of length.

Here was my problem when I bought my 06 Screw 4X4 XLT.. I bought the XLT because the 20' and even the 18' rims really limit your tire choices. If your looking for decent off road tires w/o changing factory tires sizes & rims, at least with the 17's you can get the Bridgestone Revos.
I dont haul much except my dog and house stuff, so the 5.5 bed is fine. I cant imagine driving it with a longer bed, its already pretty long tying to get it around my parking structure and city parking situations. However, I did hear a saying once that "You can never have too much truck". It would of been cool to be able to sleep in it I guess?
Go to TIRERACK.COM to see what fits.. the stock tires are very poor.

I'm just curious. I too am interested in buying the '06 Lariat SCrew with 6.5 foot bed. I would be interested in knowing what your base pricing is, and the total price with options, listing the options you ordered. If you'd rather not post this publicly, I will give you my email address: scottb_ebiz@comcast.net
Thanks,
Scott
Hi jsb.
For your general fund of knowledge. The purchase price of an '06 Lariet screw 4x4 with the 6.5 box for me was at dealer cost and a small paperwork charge. Different dealers get different Ford discounts, so my actual purchase cost would be not be the same even though we may have bought the same truck with the same options. But WOW is this going to be a nice truck.
LOL with your new purchase.

Does anyone know if Ford will allow an order like this?
06 SCrew Lariat but removing the woodgrain on dash and doors and replacing it with either FX4 or HD accents? I want the black, preferably, or gray accents in place of the woodgrain of the Lariat. If you're ordering one, will they do this?
Thanks,
JSB

Why would I want it a foot longer?
It's not like I carry anything in it, or use it for work.
The 5.5ft box will hold the grocery bags, or the occasional trip to WallyWorld for a few bags of mulch and a plant or two.
But hey, if you need that ugly looking, out of proportion, long bed, then that's the one to get.

Seems kind of stupid arguing about bed length. It all depends on what you use your truck for.
Personally, I would prefer a 6 ft bed. It would be long enough to sleep in the back, but short enough to fit in my garage.
